No good either.  Same error msg but the gear wheel now stalls at Applescript 3/4...  I have an LG.

I do have Xrite i1Display profiler running at startup, but don't think it should affect scripts. 

I was going to try to run the terminal command again to make sure it still works but I must have deleted the command line.  If you want me to try that please repost the command...

Alright, I'm sorry about that; i'll work on it. I have a Samsung display, and the app works perfectly.

I'm sure the problem isn't in the command line, but here you go!

I'll go back to the drawing board with this one, and for now, I'll reupload version 1.

To everyone else, the link over on my previous post about v2 is not going to download Display Identifier version 2 anymore, but version 1.2. Evidently, version 2 is still in beta.

Similar success story here. I've been eyeing this forum for some time, and a couple months ago I (hesitantly) decided to play the lottery on a new rMBP with 16GB RAM and got the LG screen. It was still gorgeous, (nearly) everything I wanted, but I decided not to chance any future issues and returned it.

Still, I've been in sore need of a new machine so last week I decided to try my hand again, and after seeing this post and others about refurbs I decided to go that route in hopes that those would be updated to Samsung displays. I picked up the base model refurb (with sligh reservations about the 8GB RAM and no ability to upgrade) and it arrived within a few days (shipped from PA as well). I did the display check as soon as I opened it and to my delight had a Samsung. The body is flawless and it had 9 cycles on the battery. And as a major bonus I actually got the 16GB RAM model I wanted to begin with (not sure what happened there).

Anyways, more evidence to the possibility that maybe refurbs are the way to go, plus it's a cheaper gamble for those still playing the lottery. I can't help but picture a warehouse full of Samsung displays in PA just waiting to be swapped into the returned LG versions after they're returned.

It's been several months. I was curious if there are any long term cases of lg lcds that are still IR free.

Thanks for the reply alphagob.  I have thought of buying a refurbished rMBP, but I have never owned a refurb and I'm afraid it might have scuffs and scratches.  I'm a bit OCD when it comes to things I value, and $3,000+ laptop is something I would expect to be scratch free.   BTW,  what's the return policy on buyng refurb?

I checked on the refurb return policy with Apple, was thinking of upgrading to the maxed out model when they first showed up as refurbs.  It's exactly the same as buying a brand new unit and the same option to add on AppleCare within the first year.
