It may be account-related. From Mail Help:
The Drafts mailbox contains messages you’ve saved but haven’t sent yet. The Drafts mailbox remains displayed until there are no drafts and you quit Mail.
If you have an Exchange or Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) account that is set to save drafts on the server, then as soon as Mail syncs with the server, any drafts you save are shown on your other computers that use that account. To see the drafts immediately, choose Mailbox > Synchronize for the account.

Thanks Eric. I use a few IMAP accounts so I guess that drafts from those accounts could be saved to the server, (and then disseminated to other computers) but it still doesn't explain why the drafts should remain in the drafts folder once the original message has been sent.

I am having the same problem with my IMAP with GoDaddy
The only solution i've come across is to uncheck the "Store Draft Messages on the Server" solution which doesnt help my situation, which is having my draft available on multiple devices, whcih is the reason I went with the IMAP system.
