I've read a lot about it but want to clarify a couple things.

When does this app send notifications to email?

When you open it and view the map? When you use "Play Sound", "Lock Mode" or "Erase Phone" or all listed?

I tested this on the Icloud web page with my personal phone sitting next to me and only got a notification when I hit the "Play Sound" button. I did not try "Lock- Mode" or "Erase Mode" for obvious reasons.

I have seen tons of posts and threads about this topic and many have complained that it notifies the email as soon as you view the location of the device. were these people just assuming or am I missing something...?

At this point I conclude that you can view a devices location on the map without said device being sent a notification.

Thanks in advance!!

That is correct, as far as I know. I have used Find My iPhone both using the app on my phone and the iClould website to track my daughter's phone when she is coming home late at night from babysitting jobs. The only time it sends the email is for play a sound, or the last two you don't want to try. The email is sent to the email address that is used for the iCloud account, and does not necessarily have to be the email address used on the particular device.

The only time the device would show anything that the phone was being tracked is if the setting was turned on to display the location icon. Go into Settings, Privacy, tap on Location services, tap on Find My iPhone. The setting is the Status Bar Icon. That would display the Location services arrow, but that would have to be set on the phone you are tracking.

    Hope that answers your question.

A trend? I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. The only people that can view your devices in Find My iPhone are ones that are signed in with the same Apple ID, unless you know someone else's Apple ID and password.

Okay, I wasn't so sure what you were implying with trend. If you meant there was something wrong. If you check the User Manual, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf there is some explanation about the app as well as what razmee209 posted from the iTunes App Store page.
