I have an iphone 4 running ios 6.0.1 and am trying to sync my mail folders from Outlook 2007.  I have the "Sync Mail Accounts from; Outlook" box checked and under "Selected Mail accounts" I have the approriate email account checked.

However, there does nto appear to be any sync happening.  My iphone has none of the emails or folders that exist in my Outlook Mail.

How do I get them to actually Sync so I have all my mail folders and emails from Outlook on my iPhone?  thanks

iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1

You can not sync messages between the iPhone and Outlook. Only account information. You can only sync mail with a mail server.

All that setting does is sync your account info, nothing more.

To sync folders is a function of what type of account you have, & such requires an IMAP or Exchange account, not possible with a POP account. If you have an IMAP or Exchange account...and it appears you don't...the folders will automatically appear(except folders created locally on your computer) & automatically be kept in sync.

You can fix this, easily & for free. Get a Gmail account, free, set it up as IMAP, forward the mail from your current account, keep both email addresses & never have to deal with a POP account again.

2 question sabout the Gmail solution

If I get a Gmail account

Can I still use Outlook 2007 to do my email on my desktop?

Can I set it up so the gmail address is transparent to users, for example, they sontinue to send to my old emaill address and I don't have to tell everyone I have a new gmail email address.

    Yes.

You forward the mail from your POP account to your Gmail account. That way it doesn't matter what address folks use, as you get it all in your Gmail account.

I am currently using an iOS app called PST mail which synchronises an Outlook .PST file (or several).

The sync is fast (after the first time). Emails can be searched, replied to, forwarded, etc.

This will do for me until Apple wakes up and develops a better Mail app - or someone else does.

    Hope this is helpful.

(In case you are wondering I have nothing  to do with the app and am just a happy user).
