    Hi!

It seems a bit odd for me that the conf file has existed, because I remember that I once deleted the conf file as I followed your instructions in your first reply. Now it is somehow not created.

The conf file that you first deleted was most likely present from when you had 10.6 on this Mac and you were printing to the LBP.

But now I think you have something on this Mac that is stopping this file from being created, or there is something wrong with the CAPT driver that is not operating as it should when you add the printer.

I need to see if the CAPT driver keeps a log when you add the printer or if we have to enable debug mode in CUPS. I hope to get some time looking at this tomorrow.

    Hi,

I have the same problem, or something similar : I purchased a Canon 6300dn and cannot manage to make it print, even with the 3.55 driver versio (tried the US and UK versions).

I have 2 Macs (1 MacPro and 1 Macbook Pro both on 10.8) and would like to have the printer on a network (I have a router).

But the only thing that works (after lots and lots of trials) is to print with only 1 computer (the MacPro) when the Canon is plugged to that computer with the USB cable.

Even sharing the printer between the 2 macs does not works : when the Canon printer is plugged in Mac nb1, I install the "shared" printer on mac nb2, then launch the printing job ; it appears on the printing queue of mac nb2 for a few seconds, then disappears while nothing gets printed ; (it never appears on the printing queue for all users on mac nb1).

As for when I try to do what I really need to (install the printer on a network in order to use it even when mac nb1 is turned off), there is no way to print anything with any mac.

Please help, I have spent 1 full day trying to make it work and I am becoming mad.

    Thanks for your answer,

The CAPT driver does not work that well when shared. So I'm not surprised that your attempt to get the MBPro to print via the MacPro share failed. Some users have had success with using the Generic Postscript driver on the client Mac (your MBPro) rather than using the CAPT driver.

When the printer was connected to the router, were you able to add the printer but it would then fail to print? Or did you have trouble adding the printer?

  • 20. Re: OSX 10.8 and Canon LBP6300dn
    wheneverisay Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I think that I would be correct to state that the CAPT driver does not work AT ALL when shared don't you think ?

I now have the printer with USB cable on the MacPro, and am trying everything I can to be able to print from the 2nd computer (MBPro).

Tried the Generic Postcript driver, not working.

Tried the Gutenprint for other LBP models (there is non for the 6300), not working.

When the printer was connected to the router, I had no problem adding it. It would only fail to print. Just as it fails when I try to print from another computer.

    Any other idea ?

Can you connect the LBP to the network and add the printer. Then I need you to open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder. Then type

    /Library/Caches/Canon/CUPSCAPT/CCPD

and press Go. You should now see the ccpd.conf file. Double-click this file and select to open in TextEdit. Then select all the information you see in the file, copy and paste back here for me to check.

    here it is :

    # Printer entries

    # The "Printer-Name" has to be identical to the CUPS printer queue name.

    #

    #  For example, if you prepare a printer named "XXXX" as a CUPS printer

    #  you can use the following three lines example just by removing the

Do you know what mafreebox.free.fr is?

This DevicePath is meant to have the IP address of the LBP6300.

mafreebox.free.fr is the IP adress of my router (adsl box)

  • 25. Re: OSX 10.8 and Canon LBP6300dn

I guess it would be the same as "192.168.0.254"

  • 26. Re: OSX 10.8 and Canon LBP6300dn
    PAHU Level 6 Level 6 (14,510 points)

Well that explains why you have not been able to print when the LBP is connected to the network. This should be the LBP IP address, not the router.

At this stage I suggest you remove the USB and network printer from Print and Fax. Then trash this ccpd.conf file and restart the Mac. Then add the network printer again and see if it prints. If it does not print, then check the System Information and ccpd.conf file again.

ok so I don't think I will be able to do it any other way.

I already created a specific IP adress for my printer (192.168.0.111) but when I try to create a new printer (in Print and Fax) with this IP address (192.168.0.111) and protocol Socket or IPP, the printer cannot be created, I get an error message.

Do you have a suggestion to succeed in printing form the 2nd mac when the printer is installed on the 1st mac via USB cable ?

The CAPT driver supports LPD and Jetdirect. It doesn't support IPP.

I would open a browser and type in that IP address. This should open the internal web page of the LBP if there is a working connection. If it doesn't open the LPB6300 home page then it would indicate that the IP address is not registered in the LPB correctly.

    wheneverisay wrote:

I just tried that now and it worked for me. I have an iMac running 10.8.2 with the LBP6300 connected via USB cable. The iMac is also connected to a Netgear wireless router. The LBP6300 is set as the shared printer in Sharing > Printer Sharing.

Then on MBPro, also running 10.8.2, I opened Print & Scan and clicked the plus button to add. I then selected "Add Printer or Scanner" and with the Default view selected, I could see the iMac sharing the LBP6300. I selected it and the Use menu changed to "Canon LBP6300 CAPT (UK)". I clicked the Add button to complete the creation of the printer.

Next step was to open a PDF in Preview and select to print to the shared LBP. The job spooled off the MBPro and I could see it arrive on the iMac (I had the LBP6300 print queue open in the iMac) and after a few seconds the printer fired up and the pages were printed.

I tested a few times from different applications (Safari, Word and Mail) and all printed fine.

My last test was to remove the queue from the MBPro and add it again, this time selecting the Generic Postscript driver in the Use menu. This did not work at all. The job arrived at the iMac but the printer never started. After a minute the queue paused. I then checked the cups error log and it showed that there was a "cnbma data error" and also the message "Can't connect to CCPD: Connection refused".

So I deleted this job, resumed the printer on the iMac and added the printer again on the MBPro, this time selecting the "Canon LBP6300 CAPT (UK)" in the Use menu. Tested a print and it worked fine.

Checking the System Information on the MBPro, I see the following for the LBP6300.

    LBP6300 @ Paul’s iMac:

      Status:          Idle

      Print Server:          Remote

      Default:          No

      URI:          dnssd://LBP6300%20%40%20Paul%E2%80%99s%20iMac._ipps._tcp.local.

      PPD:          Canon LBP6300 CAPT (UK)

And on the iMac, the USB connected LBP6300 has the following information in System Information.

    LBP6300:

      Status:          Idle

      Print Server:          Local

      Driver Version:          3.55

      Default:          Yes

      Shared:          Yes

      URI:          cnbma://localhost:59687

      PPD:          Canon LBP6300 CAPT (UK)

      PPD File Version:          3.55

      PostScript Version:          (3010.000) 550

    (3010.000) 651

      CUPS Version:          1.6.2 (cups-327.3)

      Scanning support:          No

      Printer Commands:          none

      CUPS filters:

    capdftopdl:

      Path:          /Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/Bins/capdftopdl

      Permissions:          rwxr-xr-x

      Fax support:          No

      Printer utility:          /Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/StatusMonitor/StatusMonitor.app

      Printer utility version:          3.55

      PDEs:

    FinishingPDE.plugin:

      Sandbox compliant:          Yes

So my testing does seem to confirm that it is possible to share a printer using the CAPT v3.55 driver.

Tried several times yesterday exactly as you describe it.

On the MacPro, I had (and stille have) the following information :

    LBP6300 :

      État:          Inactif

      Serveur d’impression:          Local

      Version du gestionnaire:          3.55

      Par défaut:          Oui

      Partagé:          Oui

      URI:          cnbma://localhost:59687

      PPD:          Canon LBP6300 CAPT (US)

      Version du fichier PPD:          3.55

      Version PostScript:          (3010.000) 550

    (3010.000) 651

      Version CUPS:          1.6svn (cups-327)

      Assistance numérisation:          Non

      Commandes de l’imprimante:          none

      Filtres CUPS:

    capdftopdl :

      Chemin:          /Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/Bins/capdftopdl

      Autorisations:          rwxr-xr-x

      Assistance fax:          Non

      Utilitaire de l’imprimante:          /Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/StatusMonitor/StatusMonitor.app

      Version de l’utilitaire de l’imprimante:          3,55

      PDE:

    FinishingPDE.plugin :

      Conforme à Sandbox:          Oui

But on the MacBook, I remember checking this information yesterday and there was the same URI as on the MacPro, which seemed a bit strange :

    LBP6300 @ MacPro de Julie

    (...)

    URI: cnbma://localhost:59687

    (...)

Will try again this morning from scratch and then post the exact and full System Information from the Macbook ; it will be in 1 or 2 hours as the macbook is not arrived in the office yet...!
