Mobile Safari claims to support the html 5 input type="date" since iOS 5, but it only works in the US Region. In the US the date format of yyyy-MM-dd is changed to MMM dd, yyyy. In other regions such as Canada, the date is left as yyyy-MM-dd. Chrome converts the date to MM/dd/yyyy for US and dd/MM/yyyy for Canada, but iOS leaves it in the less user friendly format. Why does Apple claim to support this input type, but not support it fully? I'd much rather use the nice HTML 5 date picker for Canadian users, but without full support I may need to abandon the idea. Has anyone else developed for this and seen anything different?

iPad, iOS 6.1, Mobile Safari
