Hi- I recently got an iMac with 10.8.2 and I am having trouble printing to my canon d550 multifunction printer/scanner. The scanner works fine, but when I try to print I get a "Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message. I talked to mac support twice. They suggested I reinstall the driver. That didn't work, so they said it was a canon issue. I talked to canon , they guided me through an in depth driver re-install (I went into the canon folder, deleted original files and reinstalled the driver twice). It didn't work and they said it was a mac issue. I know that somewhere in this beautiful world there is a person who knows how to get my computer to communicate with my printer! Please, help me! Thanks so much- Nick

Did Apple or Canon get you to perform a reset of the printing system?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11143?viewlocale=en_US

This will remove the printer from Print & Scan but not the UFR2 driver files, so you will only have to add the printer again.

If you have already done this, can you confirm which filter the error references. Maybe a screen grab of the error message?

Thanks for that. Doesn't give too many clues as to the cause.

Next action is to open System Information (Applications > Utilities) and select Printers in the left column. The right pane should show the Canon D500 (if you have more than one printer you will need to select the D500 in the top right pane). Can you select all the information shown for the D500, copy and paste back here please.

I have the same issue with my Canon MF3010 Laser Printer.  I have reset printer setting, deleted printer from my late 2012 iMac.  I even switched USB ports.  All still not working.

Thanks for supplying that information. It shows that you are running the new MF Printer Driver v1.1.0. Since this model is also supported by the UFR2 driver, I recommend you download this UFR2 driver via this link and install.

After installing the new UFR2 driver, open Print & Scan and remove the current D500 printer. Then click to add the D500 again, but this time ensure you select "Canon D500 Series (UK)" in the Use menu.

Then see if you can print without getting a filter error.

Can you also follow the instruction above for getting the MF3010 information shown in System Information and then pasting back here.

I just downloaded the same (UK) Driver above and followed the install instructions and it worked perfectly!!!  Thanks so much PAHU!  I guess somehow I received a UK version printer.  But it's been working great up until a couple weeks ago, strange.  But this (UK) driver worked perfectly.

Excellent. Not sure what is going on with the v1.1.0 driver but it appears to be causing some problems. Thank goodness you have the option to use the UFR2 v2.43 driver.

I am in the US. I have a late 2012 model mac mini with OS 10.8. I have a Canon MF4770n. There are drivers on the US website for Canon which are supposed to support the above. I too receive "Printing stopped-Filter failed". I have tried both Canon and Apple support multiple times without success. I have the printer on my home wireless network. What can I do to correct this?

This is not an Apple issue. It is an issue with the Canon driver. You need to get back to Canon and insist they report this to Canon INC. This v1.1.0 driver is causing too many problems and Canon has to do something about resolving these issues.
