Why can't I move imported emails to a different mailbox

I used to use Apple Mail for personal and Entourage for business but have just merged both in Apple Mail.

I imported my business inbox (MBox export from Entourage) and all appeared in the new account sub-mailbox in Apple Mail.

However, a short time later, the emails moved themselves to the main In-Box. New business emails received directly to Apple Mail go straight to the business sub mail box but the imported ones from Entourage won't stay there - they just go back to the main In-Box no matter how often I drag them out

Anyone shed some light on this?

Messages shouldn't move themselves from mailbox to mailbox for no reason. Can you post a screenshot of your mailbox sidebar (open the Inbox if necessary to show the different accounts), and indicate where you are trying to keep the messages? Blur out any information you don't want us to see.

Also tell us what type of email account, synchronized? (Imap/Exchange) or not (POP3)

I've found dragging and dropping in Mail not always reliable, especially with a large number of messages. Right-clicking and Move or Copy to another mailbox is better.

I still don't know what you mean by "sub-inbox". POP inboxes can't have mailboxes within them, as far as I'm aware.

I'm with Matt here, what do you mean by sub-inbox?

Also just noticed, the emails I moved are now in both places - the primary inbox and the sub inbox. I would have thought that 'move' means move and not copy?

It does, stop whatever you are doing until at least one of us has an idea what you are doing.

Ok. At top left you have 'inbox'. When you create additional accounts they appear as inboxes named as your new accounts below but the top one stays as 'inbox'. In that sense they are like sub folders of the main inbox. In my case one is "iCloud" and one is my trading name 'kikk'

No, they are seperate accounts, they are not like sub folders.

To the left of the topmost Inbox there will be a small arrow, click on it and it will expand revealing all the inboxes that are displayed in it.

Understanding this will also explain why the Mail has not moved at all, you are just using different routes to the same inbox.

When I first imported an mbox from Entourage it appeared in a folder further down called 'import'.

From there I dragged all imported emails into the 'kikk' inbox. They appeared in there but shortly after I found all the imported emails had gone into the top 'inbox' and were missing from the 'kikk' inbox. Some new emails had arrived and they went straight into the 'kikk' box and stayed there. It was only the imported emails that moved.  When I tried dragging them back they wouldn't stay.

Hope this clarifies things a bit?  And thanks again for your help
