I have an iPhone 4S with 6.1.1. I was on 58% when I went to sleep and closed all running apps.

I wake up a few hours later to find my iPhone on 45%!

My phone never drains by that much overnight, usually 1 or 2% but thought I'd try it out seeing as a lot of people were having the issue.

My 4S continues to have heat and rapid battery after the 6.1.1 patch.       I need to use my Exchange account for work on my iPhone  but I plan to delete it and see if that helps.  Hopefully,  Apple can resolve this issue in the next day or so.

Follow-up:  I turned off my Exchange calendar.  The 4S has cooled and is holding a charge much better.  I will continue to monitor and report back if the issue returns.

Now I understand why Apple continuously states that they're not a software company

From the piece of crap that they just released I tend to agree.

My iOS 6 experience is a sad sad moment in a geek's life, it's heating up while lying switched off on a table... this has to be some kind of a record for Apple. Although, wait, no... I stand corrected, I still remember fondly the ios4 on my 3G... bast!^#s. How am I supposed to buy another iPhone if they fail so hard everytime I do.

Well somehow, after couple of hours and almost draining my phone twice I managed to get the problem under control. It's no longer heating up.

I have no idea what worked - I disabled all system location services (but not apps or find my iphone), disabled iCloud calendar sync, and switched of push notifications keeping fetch at 15min

    More than likely the iCloud calendar . Here is a suggested setup if you are interested;

systems settings: turn off everythng except cellular, compass and traffic

Location services  just enable the ones that you use or matter. Like SIRI sorta needs to know where you are for certain things.

iCloud: turn off things you dont need there. I use contacts, reminders, photo stream and find my phone. Thats all for me personally. And Fetch at 15 min on email may be worse than push actually. I would make it longer or set to manual or set back to push. No need to disable everything but if you dont need anything in location services sure leave it off totally.

Again I would guess from your post maybe your issue was with iCloud. Have seen folks have issues with iCloud running full on creating battery drain. Sometimes shutting it down, rebooting the device then starting it back will solve. So maybe you solved it already by shutting down the calendar for example. Have heard of iCloud contacts being corrupted or hanging trying to sync constantly too.

I talked to our Exchange administrator. We have about 200 iPhones on our server. He checked and said that has been no indication of any problems with iPhones. I know some of them have upgraded, but I don't know how many.

The question is if there is really a bug in 6.1.1 with respect to Exchange why doesn't it show up on every Exchange server and account? Could it be related to the version of Exchange? Patches applied or not applied? And why do people who don't have Exchange accounts still have battery problems?

Thanks @sbailey4, you're right, I've enabled back the push, and location services for cell and compass, don't need the traffic. At the moment no adverse effect on battery life.

Your point about the calendar is spot on - I just remembered that 2 weeks ago I had to kill my iCloud calendar syncing on my iMac because the service was going completely crazy with 100% cpu load. Since I use google it doesn't really matter anyway.

    Hai ..
I am Apple 4s user. Not doubt, facing the battery drain off and the overheating problem until not dare to update to IOS 6.1.1 . Sorry being take compared with the samsung. Example, last time my samsung tab was in the older version, the lifetime of the batteries was undersired. After I has upgrate the latest version, the battery problem is greatly improved almost 70%. That why this make me feel curious and doubt about why the Apple cant solve the problem. I am Apple supporter , so I sincerely hope the problem can solved as fast as possible.
Greatful waiting for the up coming version to solve all the problem. Thanks
