Ok, out of the blue I called Apple today and gave them my serial for my G5 Quad and here is there response:
"Thank you for your serial number and allowing us to provide for you the original discs which came with your computer, but because your machine is a PRE-INTEL based Mac we no longer carry the replacement discs for your machine. Now, since your machine is marked as VINTAGE, we can provide you with local service centers which can provide you with those discs"
I rest my case... Apple simply does not carry the original PowerPC G5 discs and or G4 or G3.. Everything is all Intel now.. The only thing they carry is Leopard and that too is getting long in the tooth.. but its still available as I got a replacement disc on order.

What G5 do you have? Please post the machine's identifier so that I can see what discs your system needs..
This can be found by clicking on the Apple in far left corner, About this Mac.. System Profiler. For instance my identifier is PowerMac11,2 - Late 2005 G5 Dual and Quad.

Yes they do, or they did last year as I obtained iMac G4 restore discs from Apple's 0800 number. Maybe it's different in the US.
However, sometimes they may not supply discs for your particular machine, so eBay is a more reliable source.

Thats probably it.. USA is different, it seems.. but I already have my original discs.. I was just calling to assume Apple still provides replacements for their PowerPC line of machines.. I even asked for a G3 Pismo replacement disc and they told me they no longer have those, plus its OBSOLETE.

Apple suplies replacement parts for seven years for it's machines in the USA.
In this post, they were supplying Tiger and Leopard install dvds for the machines instead of individual machine restore dvds.
Restore Tiger 10.4 & Leopard 10.5 DVDs are available from Apple by calling 800-767-2775 as of January 20, 2013.

All I get now is the apple icon when starting my computer why is that?
Means the file system has become corrupted. It could be because of a bad hd. Hd's average life is five years.
Getting a leopard disk is close enough. Has all g5 drivers. you will miss bonus software that came with machine ... could have been iLife & some Games, etc. Not a biggie.
Shutdown your machine. Hold down the shift key. Poweron. Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive
is being checked.
You need to get into single use mode.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think. The boot up will take longer than normal. The filesystem will be checked and repaired.
# reboot your mac
shutdown -r now
