I got my iPhone 5 in November I have installed every OS update and am on the 6.1 as of right now.  Our Wifi router is a Belkin N300 Wireless N and when it is configured for no password, iPhone 5 connects just fine.  When it is password protected iPhone 5 does not join the network.  What gives as this is crucial to NOT using up my entire data plan.

    Hello to Everyone!

    It might help you.

    1. You should choose a router which better works with apple's build-in Broadband chip devices. For example Asus rt-66u.

    2. Set your settings by default or like on apple site (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199)

    I have 100 Mb/s ISP. Asus rt-66u with 5 Ghz. There is my speedtest.net results DL=99.4 Mb/s; UL=36 Mb/s.

I spent last night resetting my new iPhone 5 back to factory and setting then it up as a new phone in lieu of restoring from a backup.  My wifi connects ... but drops:(  I have noticed that it drops when it has been "asleep" for a few minutes.  (My iPad Mini, sitting right next to the phone, continues to experience no problems).

The only thing I haven't tried is somehow reverting back to ios 6.0.1.  I'm going to call Apple support and see if I can trade this phone in for one that has not yet been upgraded to 6.1.

It's getting really ridiculous. Now it's even impossible to update apps. Another problem that some iPhone 5 owners seem to experience.

Wifi problems, battery problems, software problems,...

I traded my iPhone 5 in today for the 2nd time.  I kept the version of the ios at 6.0.2 (I asked at the Apple store for something earlier-6.0.2 is what they gave me.)  So far no issues with dropping wifi.  I took a 15 minute walk way outside the wifi area then came back.  The phone remembered the wifi, and connected without requiring reentering the password... the first time this has happened in a couple of weeks. I don't plan to upgrade to 6.1 until I'm sure that it's bug free.  This has been a costly lesson, including all the time spent, mileage and the AT&T charge for exceeding my data limit.  Makes me wonder what would have happened if I just fished my iPhone 4S out of Biscayne Bay and stuck it in a bag of rice for a few days.

Same issue here since I bought my iPhone 5 a month ago. I have 4s and 2 iPads. . Just read some of the recommendations. I removed my leatherette protector and it seemed to increase my wifi signal bars to full.

If its a software problem, I hope new updates should boost wifi connectivity

No- but they can afford it! Once you're in the Apple product "lake" you'd think they'd throw you a

lifeline.... once in awhile? I guess not. Pay for this and then pay again, then fix THEIR mistakes

for them and then pay again. Feel like a sucker fish sometimes.....

At the suggestion of others on a related thread, I have found that switching to wireless N - 5.0 GHz mode gets my iPhone working again.  Signal strength goes back to "Excellent".  No distance problems, etc.  All other modes still create the problem.  The MAC address filtering and choice of password security do not impact at all.  Of course, I can't stay in that mode because then other devices I have do not work.

APPLE - PLEASE TAKE NOTICE AND GIVE SOME ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!

    Hi, I am back.

I got a new iPhone5 (garantee swap), here in Belgium. It came with iOS 6.01.

    Seems to work normally now.

I didn't restore the software from my back-up, because I could recover my contacts from the cloud. I reconfigured my mail-accounts and could re-install my apps from App Store.

Video and music recovered from my computer.

I am hesitating to upgrade it to iOS 6.1.

    Maybe interesting info:

The model of my previous iPhone5 was MD288NF/A, the new one is ND299DN !

Modem program is now 1.01.00 and was 3.04.25

    Good luck to all.

Thanks Roland.  I finally spoke with Apple Support today.  They recommended performing a factory reset from within iTunes and setting us a new phone.  Then, before restoring, trying the iPhone with my WiFi network.  I did these steps, but it did not help - same issue. (I've since restored from a back-up since it makes no difference.)

I called back to tell them the results.  They said this could be a sign of a bad WiFi card and have authorized an exchange.  As soon as I get to an Apple Store to make the switch, I will do so and then will be sure to post the results.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to reply to this yet.

I am using a modem/router from my ISP which is a Sagecom 2864.

After using that for several weeks with the iPhone 5 and having no wireless signal without sitting on top of it, I disabled the wifi option and hooked up a Belkin N+ router for wifi.

Sadly this still has not improved anything.

This isn’t so much a problem with on off devices, but rather the iPhone 5 in general.

My wife has the same problem, and after talking to several friends with the iPhone 5 they too complain of the inconsistencies of wifi.

I have not updated to the new IOS 6.1, but am wondering if that has helped anybody yet?

I think it was 6.1 that broke my WiFi.  The Apple Support people to whom I talked are quite aware of this issue.  The standard procedure seems to be to get you to do a "restore to factory settings" from iTunes and then try the iPhone without restoring from a back-up.  If that does not work, they'll replace your device.
