    Hello:

If you get the message that your internal HD is full, you will need to begin deleting files.  Be sure you only delete your (user) files.  Avoid deleting anything related to OS X.

Select a file and then drag it to the trash on the dock, or hold down the Command key and hit the Delete key, or right click on the file and select Move to Trash, or, under the File menu in Finder, select Move to trash. Then, in the Finder menu, select Empty Trash...

Don't delete any OS files by staying away from applications and anything else you didn't create or download. If you need to give permission to delete something you probably shouldn't.

I don't understand. Where am I selecting a file? How do I know what's in the file before I trash it?

You are selecting the file where you see it; e.g., it's on the desktop or in a folder. You find out what's in the file by opening it with the application you created it with. Using a file name that tells you something when you create it helps too.
