I have DSL with Earthlink. When I turn on my Mac Mini I don't have to login since it's my home computer. But after my Mac starts up and the desktop appears, so does a box asking for a password and I thought that was associated with my profile. I then click on Safari and the Earthlink home page appears with my name because I never sign off from that either. But today, after turning on, the box didn't appear. However, everything else was normal. I called Earthlink because I thought that the box was associated with them instead of Mac. The support person said I must have "remember me" checked on and when I asked where I could find this he said System Preference. I thanked him but didn't bother asking for location as I thought I'd find it myself. Didn't find it so then I did a live chat with another support person who directed me to Security on Safari, then Autofill and User Names and Passwords. But when I clicked on Edit, there were no websites or user names listed. So, no help there.

I've noticed that it doesn't seem to matter if that box appears anyway because if I click on Safari before the box appears, the Earthlink home page still comes up. I've always clicked on this box from years ago when I used dial-up with Earthlink and had a desktop G4 but maybe I don't need it now? Maybe it just migrated when I transfered files from my external hard drive to my Mac Mini when I bought it three years ago. I always felt it was like an extra measure of security but I guess if I'm going out and will be away from home for awhile, I should just log out in case of theft. Thanks for any reply and I don't blame anyone if I don't sound like I'm making any sense.

You can go to system preferences>security>general and disable automatic login, if you want a little more peace of mind.  Also on your Earthlink login did you click a remember me box or something like that? I have AT&T and it will remember my login for 7-14 days.

You can also go to accounts>login items and seee if there is anything there related to Eartlink.

It's probably the login item, if you delete it you will then probably have to login every time. You should be able to recreate the login item from Earthlink should you decide.  Did you add that login item? If not it came from Earthlink.   Best

I deleted all that stuff, my machine worked better, without all the silly hassles. I have nothing in there on both my SL, and on my Lion. You don't need it, it's some of those things that Apple has that's supposed to make it easier, but ends up being a PITA. Just put your commonly used things in the bookmarks, then the MBP won't try to do it automatically, and clog stuff up.  All that stuff drove me nuts till I trashed it, much less pervasive.  If you want iTunes, open iTunes, do really need a helper?...etc.
