I can't view my calendar on my iMac. When I open Calendar, I see the menu bar and can view that, but nothing else. Many of the items on the drop down menu are greyed out and the few I can click on, result in nothing happening.  It's fine on my iPad and iPhone, just not on my iMac.

Tired to restore it from Time Machine and I get the warning that I can't alter Calendar.

Any suggestions/help?  It's been about a week ago that this started.

    Hi,

I suggest you try deleting the calendar cache.

    • Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu.

    • Open the Library folder. Depending on your version of OSX you may need to hold the Option key while clicking the Go menu in order to access the Library folder.)

    • Open the Calendars folder.

    • In the Finder, delete the Calendar Cache files, including any that also display a -1 (or -2, -3, and so forth) directly after their filename.

    • Open iCal and wait for the calendars to be rebuilt.

    Best wishes

    Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, this didn't do the trick.  However, it at least allowed the ical desktop icon to bounce when I clicked on it after doing the above (which is more than what I have been getting).

When I choosed Home from the Finder's Go menu --> Library --> I couldn't find the calendar folder.  However, when I held the option key down while clicking the Go menu, then Library (skipping the Home), then I could see the calendar folder. Not sure if therein lies part of the problem of why it didn't work or not.  I only had the one Calendar Cache file, but there was also the Email cache.plist in that folder.  I deleted that as well, but it didn't make a difference.  I tried various times and also tried deleting the cache files from trash.  In most cases I got a warning that it couldn't be deleted as it was still in use.  I restarted my computer, deleted the trash, and then retried the process, but ended up with the same results.

Next I'd suggest removing the iCal plist file.

    • Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu.

    • Open your User's Library folder. Depending on your version of OSX you may need to hold the Option key while clicking the Go menu in order to access the Library folder.)

    • Open the Preferences folder.

    • In the Finder, move the file 'com.apple.iCal.plist' to your Desktop.

    • Open iCal and check.

    Best wishes

No this didn't work either - the exact same result.

The one thing I'm wondering about, is when  you say choose "Home" from the Finder's Go Menu. (first bullet).

I am using the option key and click on "library" under the Go menu, and am going from there (I'm not clicking on Home but go directly to the "library").  Is this where the issue lies in the resolution of the problem?

When I click on the "home" under the Go menu, then I have to go to "shared" to access the "library" and then I don't see the 'com.apple.iCal.plist' doc in the preference, there is only a single file that I see.

The OS X I'm running is version  10.8.2.

You're right the "Choose home" part is not needed, sorry for the confusion.

Do you have a Time Machine backup. Have you tried restoring the Calendar folder (Your User's Library > Calendars) to a point in time before the problem started?

    Thanks,

I tried restoring it from Time Machine but I received a notice that I wasn't allowed to alter the calendar as it is part of the OS (something like that).  Perhaps I didn't do it through User's Library > Calendars, so will try that again.

Would you mind giving me the steps for this; as I can't seem to find the calendar in my user's library while in Time Machine.  Perhaps it's the problem of the computer owner and not the computer.

    • Open the Library folder. Depending on your version of OSX you may need to hold the Option key while clicking the Go menu in order to access the Library folder.)

    • Select the Calendars folder in Finder, so it is highlighted.

    • From the right section of the menu bar at the top of the window select the Time Machine icon and from its menu select 'Enter Time Machine'.

    • Go Back in time machine to a point before you were having the issue and click 'Restore'.

    • Choose to replace your current version.

    • Open iCal.

If that does not work, make a new User account on the machine and see if the application opens ok in the new account.

Yes!!  That did it!!!!  I was obviously doing the restore from Time Machine incorrectly when I did it earlier by myself.

THANK YOU a million times over.  SOOOOOOO GREATLY appreciated.

I can't thank you enough, John!

Oh crap!  Okay, I saw the calendar briefly and now I'm back to the same thing as I initially was.  When I click on the Calendar icon I get the menu bar and drop down menus but that is it.

I will try to create a new user and see if it works.

I created a new user account, logged in, and the calendar works with the new user account.  Suggestions?

On my tool bar at the bottom of the screen, the calendar icon always displays the correct date, I just can't access the calendar itself.

    Is that by iCloud?

Sometimes, it also syncs by cable when I connect them to the computer.
