Hi!

I just got myself some new apple products (macbook pro, macbook air, iPod. No, I didn't go on a shopping spree, my flat was broken into and they stole all my stuff, so I had to buy it back ^^). As I was putting my music back on the new iPod, I noticed something weird : the album art is there, no problem. On the macbook pro, I have the stupid new version of iTunes which doesn't show the album art, so I didn't really pay attention, but on the macbook air, when I plugged the iPod in, I noticed no album art would show, even though they show on the iPod when I'm using it.

Also, I can't change the presentation options : no grid show, or anything else as the plain list (which is totally fine, I loved the plain list before, as long as I could get my album covers on the side too), and I can't get the "navigator by column" (no idea how it's called in English, my iTunes is in French, but it's the thing that's on top, above your list, and from which you can choose an artist, or an album. To sum it up, the list of the artists and albums) to show.

So right now, I'm a bit annoyed, because no grid nav, ok, I can live with it, no artwork too, as long as it appears on the iPod, but no way to browse through the artists or albums, it's getting on my nerves...

What happened there ?

Macbook air is on iTunes 10 (which I don't want to update, it's the only one that could still show the album art, even if it's not doing it atm), macbook pro is on iTunes 11 (latest version), and my iPod's firmware is up to date as well.

Thanks for any tips !

Are you talking about iTunes 11 here? If so have you tried view in the top menu where you have the options "show column browser", "show status bar", and "show side bar"?

The artwork viewer in the bottom left hand corner has been removed in iTunes 11 which I really miss but you can view artwork when a song is playing, it shows as a smallicon at the top; if you click on this a big window with the artwork appears.

You didn't say where you've installed the music from, presumably a back up? It it's a manual backup, there's a seperate artwork folder in iTunes which you need to copy over if the artwork is not embedded in the song file.

I just plugged my iPod classic into iTunes to check and I get exactly the same view as you. I'm pretty sure these options are meant to be greyed out unless you're browsing music on the computer. As far as I know, column browser has never been available for the iPod, but then again I've never tried to use it.

P.S. I take it column browser works for music on the computer?

You used it for browsing the iPod or music on the computer? If the former, then I guess that's another feature that's been taken out in iTunes 11.

I've just tried it with my iPhone and same result.

All I can offer is the comfort of knowing that I get the same result, both with an iPod Classic and an iPhone.

You could of course search by clicking on the top of a coloumn and typing the first few letters of the artist, album, song name etc.

Did you check whether the PC still had iTunes 9?
