Can Zotero stand-alone be used to inset citations in Pages?  Running Mountain Lion.

Pages, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Zotero for references

You better ask those who are producing Zotero. To my knowledge there isn't any plug-in for Pages.

Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself.

So what do you think: "in the web broswer" means?

Currently, Zotero (4.0 and prior) does not have a plugin that integrates with Apple's Pages. Such a plugin would be necessary to automatically "inset citations" – a feature currently supported by plugins for Microsoft Word and LibreOffice.

The alternative is to manually insert citations manually copied from Zotero. This is the case for both stand-alone and Firefox plugin versions.

You're not the only one hoping Apple and the makers of Zotero can figure out how to make this happen... myself included.

    On the Zotero forum:

    https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/13242/zotero-for-mac/

    Hope this helps

Zotero is developed and available in two forms for Mac: 1. Zotero for Firefox; and 2. Zotero Standalone. Both use plugins to integrate with Microsoft Word and LibreOffice.

To download either version, go to: http://www.zotero.org/download/

So what do you think : "Standalone" means ?

Maybe you're really mentally challenged, so if you need explanations ask me.

    Regards, Kevin

As you are having a problem Kevin:

    Zotero Standalone

Zotero Standalone runs as a separate application and plugs into your choice of browser.

Add one of the following browser extensions:

Plugins for Word and LibreOffice are included

NB That this is a plug-in for a browser.

Pages is neither a browser, Word or LibreOffice. Ignoring the fact this post is now over 10 months old, and predated v4.

There is a workaround, but you'll lose some of Zotero's functions (no big deal).

Use BibTex (free) and CiteInPages (free too). It works great. You have to drag and drop.

Of course it's not fancy as Papers 3 but it does the job.
