Only if the "clean" track has been downloaded to the iTunes library.

Feb 15, 2013 11:44 AM in response to Michael Allbrittonby blametheadmin,Michael is correct. And because most people will download the iTunes version, there'll be lots of users with clean version songs
I never got to listen to the explicit version of Laffy Taffy by D4L. What?? It's a fun song for a late party .

Photos for MacWell, I do t know if we can say with certainty that "most users" will be downloading mismatches. To their iOS devices ,abbé, but o suspect " most users" keep the original tracks in sir iTunes library.

Feb 15, 2013 8:40 PM in response to Michael Allbrittonby blametheadmin,I said most because a lot of iTunes Match users wanted better bit rates. I'm certain that when the service first launched plenty of music fans did a clean up.

Photos for MacI'm just hesitant to make a statement like that when I don't have any numbers one way or the other. :-)

May 21, 2013 3:31 PM in response to Christopher Goldingby johnny5k,It's now been a year and a half since the original post, and my library is still full of a bunch of 'cleaned' tracks. I'm not going to go through my library & find each track, then find the original CD & re-rip it (I got rid of most of my CDs a few years ago), in the hopes that Apple has fixed that particular track/album. It's especially annyoing when I'm playing music at a party & realize it's a censored version of a song. Have you ever heard a clean version of Nuthin But a G Thang? It's not pretty.
I think this gets at a bigger problem with digital tracks. Right now on the iTunes top Hop-Hop/Rap tracks, Thrift Shop is listed twice - once at #3 for the explicit version, and again at #5 for the clean version. I can only assume if counted together, that track would be #1. Shouldn't they be counting it as one songs, with 2 different versions, rather than 2 completely separate songs? It would be nice to be able to just toggle a switch from explicit to clean. Behind the scenes, iTunes should be able to track the 2 different files but only show one in the interface. This would fix the iTunes Match problem, too. Of course I'm sure the record labels would want to get paid separately for each version, but I'm sure Apple could argue that only x% of people buy both versions, so it really doesn't matter.
Billions of dollars in R&D, yet bugs like this remain. I already submitted feedback twice. Come on, Apple, this kind of stuff just has to work.

Jun 10, 2013 4:00 PM in response to johnny5kby juicy_jones,Has this issue been resolved yet? I'd buy this just to get the ad free iTunes Radio but if it edits all my music then its not worth it to me.

Jun 10, 2013 5:12 PM in response to juicy_jonesby tmhale13,I honestly don't know if it is fixed yet. I may delete one of the songs I know was "cleaned" and pull it down again. As long as you do not delete your local song files and re-download from the iTunes Match servers, you will not loose your "explicit" versions.

Jun 10, 2013 5:18 PM in response to TwinCitiesJHawkby tmhale13,That is all well and good. But the kicker here is that you have to "reimport" from the original source. So I have to dig in my storage to find some CD's to rip back into iTunes. C'mon Apple! At least own this and admit to your many paying customers that you screwed the pooch here. Especially when customers like myself found a way to fix this using a competing service (Amazon Cloud Player). Sure I paid for two services, but now I have my library in two clouds...and locally on an external drive that gets backed up. My tunes are super-safe now!

Aug 17, 2013 4:32 PM in response to Christopher Goldingby pmpknetr21,I was having the same issue (since February of 2012) until yesterday when Apple released iTunes version 11.0.5. Once they released this version, I rescanned my drive by updating iTunes Match via the Store tab in iTunes. I then checked several explicit songs that I know had been incorrectly switched for clean ones, and many were now back to being explicit. (FINALLY!)
The ones that weren't, I deleted them from iTunes (while being sure NOT to check the box that says "Also delete this item from iCloud"), and then downloaded the songs from iCloud and they're now good to go.
That siad, I haven't had a chance to check all the songs in my library that had been incorrectly matched, so I can't confirm that all are okay yet. But so far, so good.
I hope this works for others, as this was a VERY annoying issue.

Aug 17, 2013 9:02 PM in response to pmpknetr21by tmhale13,I followed your lead and it seems to have done the trick. I haven't checked every song that I had found to be edited, but I did check a few albums (Kanye, Jay-Z, Operator) and see that an 11.0.5 update and an iTunes Match refresh has them back to their explicit versions.
I will keep an eye out for any that need to be re-downloaded, or simply do not correct. But I am glad that Apple got this corrected after a "short" 20 months or so...

Aug 19, 2013 6:18 AM in response to tmhale13by MjaMes1409,This sounds like some progress has finally been made and that's great that you can restore your content back to explicit versions on your desktop itunes.
What about my itunes on my iPhone? I cleared my stored tunes ans redownloaded an album to my phone to realize the problem is still haunting me.
Example is Earl Sweatshirt - Hive.
whether downloading or streaming to my phone (which i guess is essentially the same) the edited version comes up.
Anyone else still having this problem on iphone?

Aug 20, 2013 12:06 AM in response to Christopher Goldingby jmurph116,I can confirm that after updating itunes to 11.05 and updating Match that explicit songs are now matching with their explicit counterparts on my desktop. I don't have an iPhone so I can't confirm mobile matches. I'm glad this seems to be resolved on the desktop though!
