can't open G4 after partial wipe.

I do not understand what you did.

What did you do for the partial wipe?

Booting from a OS X install disk doesn't ask for a password.

You could be getting a firmware password, but this happens before the boot.

Might not be booting from cd/dvd, but hd.

Might not have correct dvd/cd in drive.  System will then boot from hd.

Where did you get the dvd/cd?

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    With dvd/cd in drive, do:

Try holding down the option key then power on. This brings up the startup manager. Click on your dvd. Click on right arrow key.

    Get the correct dvd.

Restore Tiger 10.4 & Leopard 10.5  DVDs are available from Apple by calling 800-767-2775 as of January 20, 2013.
