Ya I can do that, I figured I would check here first and if all else fails then take it there. I work in the IT field so if I can resolve this issue myself somehow if the advice given here then I would be greatful. Otherwise I will take it in.

I had this same issue. Drove me crazy. Took it in to the Genius Bar, and Genius 1 tried a total restore on my phone. Did not work, and it was past warranty, so he said I could buy a new phone or replace my iphone 4. Just then his mandatory break came up, so I was passed to Genius 2. I mentioned that I had cleaned the microphone, and he said "Which one?" Turns out the pinhole on the top of the phone (to the right of the earphone jack) is just a noise canceling microphone. He got out some Clens solution and a paintbrush, and with just a dab of solution, cleaned the microphone and speaker grilles on either side of the 30 pin connector on the bottom of the phone. Now it works like new!
