I recently upgraded to 10.7.5. and come to find out my modem does not work on the upgrade.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use to get back to sending and receiving faxes on my iMac?

Thanks.

You will need to get a modem that is compatible; Apple no longer has modems. Another way is if you have an all in one printer that has fax capabilities.

It worked for me with Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.

The problem with the Apple USB modem is that it was a controllerless or software modem based on the Motorola SM56 design. The advantages of a software modem are low cost, low power consumption, and compact design. The disadvantage is that modem processing is offloaded to a specialized driver that runs on the host computer. This driver is no longer provided in Lion or Mountain Lion.

    Two things to note:

    1. From the web picture you can't appreciate the size difference. The Apple USB modem has the same basic shape but is smaller than a pack of chewing gum. The US Robotics modem is about half the size of a pack of cigarettes.

    2. With the Apple USB modem, you could hear the dialing and connection noises through your Mac's audio output. With the US Robotics, you can't hear these sounds, but it will show you its connection status in the menu bar.
