OMG, My iphone 4S has fallen and rubbed the surface in the middle of the road and the screen is still perfect. But I just dropped my brand new i5 in my kitchen's hardwood floor and the front screen has a scratch from top to bottom that just won't come off. Incredible!

I honestly would've preferred the stainless steel construction of the 4s if it meant more sturdiness. I do t mind the weight that much and something that wouldn't get destroyed so fast is way better than feather weight. Anyone else agree?

I totally agree! Also I think they automatically assumed that everyone would always use their phone in a cover.

I was wary of the new design at first, but after having it for a while, I have grown accustomed to it's sleek discreetness, and it's grown on me. Just as the iphone 4. Each new design is a regretful step away from a previous design that I have grown to be fond of, but in the end I always end up loving the new one.
As for putting it in a case; I'd rather suffer scuffs and scratches and fully appreciate the elegant design boasted by this beautifully crafted object rather than wrap it up. In the end it's aging gracefully, and if scuffs become too much of an issue before I sell it, I'll probably just replace the case. Hopefully by then, iphone 5 parts will have dropped to reasonable prices (which is always the case after a while).

EXACT same thing with my black iphone5. Got it and right when taken out i had an otter box deffender case and i treat like my life is on the line. And personally, im not paying close to a grand for something that looks used... I need stuff that i pay good money for to be in prestigne shape not with white little dots all over the device. what should Apple do to fix this?

Some of the stuff I read here is a joke. I would not accept anything less than perfect especially when Apple touts this iPhone as the BEST device ever made with a fit and finish never seen before any on mobile device - I would hold Apple accountable for their clever marketing. I have boughten a lot of stuff in my lifetime and I have never run into products out of box that came with chips, scuffs, dents and scratches like the iPhone 5 has. It's truly disturbing that people think it's okay and acceptable - it's not! It's new not used.
Putting a case on it? It's like putting lipstick on a pig! It's still a PIG! If you have an iPhone 5 with markings on it and thinking that a case would cover it up... it still has markings on it when you remove the case! Don't settle for anything less and make some noise! If you accept it and don't hold Apple accountable for it, they will continue to produce subpar products and you will lose in the end!
Stand up for your rights! You paid for a premium product at a premium price. Get a new product that looks new out of box! I laugh when I see some of the comments on here and people saying other brands have same issues... no they don't! I have an iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 and my Samsung was mint out of box. My iPhone 5 was a mess out of box. Ps Samsung and other companies don't bloat about how amazing the fit and finish are either. They also don't compare it to a hand crafted watch with precision unlike anything ever made before.... total nonsense! It's made like crap!

clearly some people dont care if they are spending $1000 on a device but everyone has their own opinions so if youre gonna hate keep it to yourself. im not spending all that for something that shouldnt be worth it from its physical appearence veiw...

I bought the iphone 5 slate. It's held up well. I do have a few scuff marks but that was of my own making. The thing that's disppionting is there isn't a 3rd attenna for verizon customers so I can check an email while on the phone at the same time. Other then that I love it. I switched to an andriod phone. What a joke after having iphones 3, 4, 4S and now 5. Apple's products are very polished. The andriod kept crashing and some of the apps were causing a lot of it I assume. who wants a phone that reboots at any given time.

Ever since I put the cover and the screen protector it's been fine for me. Not worrying about any scuffs any more. It's a thin cover. Not one of those big bulky ugly boxes. Keeping the fine look of the iphone 5 alive. But you're saying that you cannot check email while you're on a call and that's not because of the iphone, it's verizon.
I just went from ATT to verizon and I was always able to check my email while on a call and now on verizon I can't. This really ***** because I was at a job site and couldn't disconnect the call but needed my email to receive the info of the stuff I was working on. And I was so ticked off that I had to go to a computer to retreive my email, then print up the info, and then go back to what I was doing. If I had known this I would have stayed with att. Oh and by the way I also switched to a Galaxy S3 and couldn't stand it. That's when I went back to iphone5 and I'm so happy I did :-)

I too have found scuffs near the volume rocker keys of the iphone 5 right out of the box, dissapointed, will they (apple) replace it?
Currently Being ModeratedMar 1, 2013 11:40 AM (in response to sairajalve90)
They will replace it up to 14 days. When I got mine and it was scratched I showed them and they opened a new one for me which was also scratched. The third one was fine...for five days haha. Now it's all scratched up and I haven't ever dropped it or hit it on anything or even put it in my pocket. It's just the black ones, if I were you I would exchange for white.

Can I please ask - is the general opinion here, that it's best to buy the white one, because it shows finger marks less, and is very less prone to the various marks mentioned here as a direct result of black "paint" coming off?
I never thought I'd see the day when I heard of an iphone that has a "painted coating". I thought it was Anodized... not painted?? Or is that the same thing?
Currently Being ModeratedMar 1, 2013 3:06 PM (in response to simon_a6)
The iP5 is not painted, it's anodized and they are definitely not the same thing. Those who say it's painted are incorrect.

But that "coating" is coming off. Is that basically it?
