I would prefer to use Outlook for Mac...have the same email going to both email accounts now. Is there no way I can "close" my mac email so it won't fill up and take up unnecessary space on my MacBook?

If you sign out of iCloud on your Mac then it won't see any future emails to iCloud. Once you've stopped using the account any messages to it will pile up there until the account storage is full, and then they will be bounced with an 'account over limit' message. (This won't be visible on or affect your Mac once you've signed out.) You could set up a Rule to move them to the Trash, which will be automatically emptied periodically; and/or set up a 'vacation message' informing people that the address is no longer in use.

If you are collecting iCloud email via Outlook as well as mail then all you need to do is to disable the account in Mail, no other changes are required.
