a question- and yes i hate this new version.

i did recover the sidebar and menu bar and have no idea why they were set to off by default anyway.

however, why do newly downloaded items not appear in "recently added"? i have multiple passes to various shows and they quite often have these strange mid-season breaks which makes it hard to keep track off release dates for episodes. i have missed a few being added now that the download feature is a stupid little icon in the top right rather than a great big downloading line in the sidebar that was impossible to miss. i have the episodes, yes, but unless i am completely switched on, its very easy to miss them now. am i missing something obvious or is this a bug, or is it the way its intended to work?

the whole thing just seems clunky and not particulary user friendly. everything that was there that made me recommend iTunes to other people is gone now or hidden away.

whereas in the 10.7 version everything i wanted or needed was just sort of there, this version ...... i really do not get why it changed so drasically without any warning. it seems now that if i want to do anything in version 11 i have to press numerous buttons and links to get there and heaven help me if i change my mind a few minutes later.

i have found myself avoiding using iTunes for no other reason that i simply cannot be bothered with the hassle anymore

The upgrade seems to have converted some of my podcasts to songs. I cannot convert them back. Neitehr can I edit anything but the song name of items with incorrect album names (or missing). If there is a way to assign songs to genres, I cannot find it.

Yes. Jobs of course. It's funny how loopy you can get after trying for several hours at a stretch to make a piece of software work that was developed not to. Thanks. I build my own desktops, code my own data bases, but I've spent hours figuring out how to organize my library after the update.

I sympathise with you all over the trouble.

I'm lucky, in as much as I've never used any previous version of iTunes.

Bring back the sidebar if you don't like the new cover-art interface by doing this:

Click Songs then choose View -> Show Sidebar

From the same menu, choose Show Status Bar and you should have the old look back.

With acknowledgement to 'future's "Complete Guide to Mountain Lion" which is proving
far more useful than the store where I bought my new MacBook Pro!!!

    HTH.

I heard that Tim Cook is dissatisfiied as well but he's too timid of a person to have any real say in the company. These days, it's all down to the yuppie upper management who think that dumb is the new cool.

Or perhaps this thread and those like it represent a vocal minority of disatisfied upgraders? Happy campers rarely visit support forums to say how much they enjjoy the new version. And a fair few posts in this thread are mine expalaining how to get a more familiar look out of iTunes 11 or roll back to 10.7 for those that want to.

Yes I agree, you do tend to repeat yourself at this stage.

Bottom line is, power users are dissatisfied and Apple is turning a blind eye. Way to go. Not.

When it seems evident that a new poster has managed to tag on to the end of the thread without realizing there are workarounds it only seems fitting to try to help. This is a support community after all.
