Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
Cheers, Tom

Re: Yahoo mail problem

Yahoo! has posted a fix for this iOS 6 problem reporting "server not available."
Cause
Recent updates to Apple's iOS 6 have caused the configuration settings of the Mail app to malfunction.
The Description field in the app's settings is set to something other than your full email address.

Hope that helps.

Feb 17, 2013 8:14 AM in response to caitlinp88by Bird Spirit,I've got exactly the same problem as caitlinp88!
I've only just got my Ipad mini for about twoo weeks and I had set up my e-mail account perfectly in 'mail'. The calander synced (big part what I got this Ipad for), the e-mails synced... all perfect.
But all of a sudden I get an error "cannot get mail. the connection to the server failed" only for my exchange mail. And on other occasions it repeatedly asks for my password saying it is incorrect. My hotmail still works like it should. Also I can still go on safari and get my exchange mail that way, so the website isn't faulty.
I've tried deleting and adding the account (at least a 100 times)
I've tried adding the account via 'other'
I've set the ipad back to factory settings, restored it and rebooted it, all without succes!
Can anybody help me with this mysterious problem?! I did update my Ipad, and about that time it stopped working, could this have anything to do with it?!

Feb 27, 2013 9:45 PM in response to caitlinp88by chmaco8,Due to a screen issue, I had my iPhone 5 replaced two days ago. I repeated deleted the mail account and kept adding it but this did not make any difference. When I attempted to setup the new phone with my Google (Gmail via exchange active sync) accounts I was receiving this same "Cannot Get Mail" error. From what I was able to gather, this problem should be affecting Gmail accounts set up via Exchange. When originally purchasing the phone I was assisted and directed to set up my Gmail account through Exchange because it had the ability to use "ActiveSync" and push not only mail and calendars, but all of my contacts as well. I found this article regarding the subject.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2413283,00.asp
What it came down to was having to delete my Gmail via Exchange account and separate it into two different accounts, a regular gmail account for my mail and a CardDAV account for my contacts.
Here is what I did. Google is changing their system and for new registrars Exchange ActiveSync will not work so you will be unable to register your account via Exchange and have your mail, calenders, and contacts all pushed together. I find this change really annoying. If you are having problems accessing your contacts after deleting the mail account, like I was, here is the work around.
To circumvent this issue go to Setting > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CardDAV Account: Under server ender google.com, then your email user name and password, then click next to verify the information.
I hope this helps.
