This had me confused too until I realized that what you need to do is to enable the use of iCloud within Keynote for iPad. To do this, go to Settings, select Keynote, and you will find a "Use iCloud" switch. Turning this on will cause Keynote to push presentations on your iPad up to iCloud and pull down any presentations that have been saved to iCloud from Keynote on another device (such as your desktop machine).

As you might expect, there is a similar Setting switch for each of Pages and Numbers.

Being a fairly new MAC user I read forums to find my way. This time I actually may have discovered a solution to the 'problem' of saving on the local machine and therefore losing the ability to save to the cloud. I duplicated my project and then saved that to iCloud. I realize this should not have to be this complicated, however, this solution was fast and easy. Hope this helps anyone trying to solve this dilema.

Not sure if you are still having trouble, but the answer is simple.

if you created you keynote presentation on your computer, then log into icloud.com from your computer(make sure you are synced up so that you computer and ipad are already all linked on icloud) . . . drag and drop your keynote presentation onto your page with keynote presentations . . . voila.  Then check it out on your ipad (make sure you have keynote on your ipad) . . . it should load up there . . . .

    I hope that helps.

I can see the file on both devices but it doesn't appear in Keynote on my iPad.

Is there a way for me to play my keynote presentation on a pc? I don't have a Mac and the ppt doesn't upload properly. I have a speech to give and I would like to present my exact presentation. Perhaps there is an adapter or something that I can plug in to view the presentation?

I have a similar problem.  I am able to upload a presentation to keynote on my computer but it does not show on my iphone (in keynote). I have had numerous successes doing the same procedure in pages with a work doc.

Wondering why I couldn't sync some new Keynote files using iTunes like I'd done before updating to new IOS.  Discovered that on the iPad app of Keynote while in Presentations, tap on the + symbol, upper left corner, and then on Copy from iTunes.  Then just select the Keynote file from the iMac iTunes list!  It quickly imports the file to your iPad.
