Turn off computer or leave on for a few hours at a time?

I work on my mac a few hours everyday. I often work for a couple of hours, step away for a little while, then come back & work some more.


Ever since I upgraded to Mountain LIon, I cannot wake up my Power Mac after it sleeps. I have to do a hard re-boot. This is very annoying. Since there is no fix for this as of yet, I was wondering if I should just leave the computer on with the monitors going to sleep after 15 minutes, or turn the computer off everytime I leave and turn it back on when I come back later?

    How do you manage to run Mountain Lion on a PM G5? I'm guessing you are running a Mac Pro generation 3 or higher.


    You might instead try to determine why your computer will not wake from sleep properly.


    Try creating a new user account with admin status. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Does the problem persist. If not, then you have something in your user account that is causing the wake from sleep problem. Now comes the hard part - finding the cause.

    Well, try my suggestion from my previous post. Unless you have a hardware problem this is a fixable problem. I've been using a Mac Pro since 2006 and have not had such a problem. Often they trace down to a corrupted file that is preventing some process from waking up or sleeping properly.


    You can leave it on all the time if you prefer, but it would be better to fix the problem.

    If Kappy's suggestion doesn't isolate the problem, you might try booting into the Safe Mode as it resets some things.

    The following has worked for some Macbooks, and the same might apply.


    Boot to Recovery drive (command - R). Run Disk Utility/Repair Permissions and Repair Disk. Reboot to startup disk. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~`/Library. Delete Cache folder and Cookies folder. Empty trash.
