Feb 17, 2013 12:21 PM in response to Mcboehlkeby babowa,Some specific info would help: iMac model/year, exact OS version.
Do you use any key commands at startup? Or do you simply push the power button?

I usually just press the power button. One of my kids said the computer froze so they turned off the power. This is what happens when I try to start up now.

Feb 17, 2013 3:31 PM in response to Mcboehlkeby babowa,Well, I'm going to suggest repairing the disk; however, you still did not answer the question which OS version you are running. Do you have install disk(s)? (I'm guessing you do with a 9,1). If so, please insert disk and restart while holding down C key. (You need to boot from your install disk); go to Disk Utilities >Disk Utility and repair the internal disk. Also run repair permissions while there. Boot back into your regular disk See if it works now. If not, use disk #2 to run the Apple Hardware Test:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
(check both methods mentioned there - I'd assume yours needs the disk).
Run the test in extended mode (will take a while) and write down any error messages you see when posting back.
