My sons I phone 4  is 11 months old & was bought in the uk from O2.

It was dropped in water & stopped working ,  so I decided to bring it to my local  Apple store  because I read it can be exchanged for about   £120. The genius bar guy had a look and said the phone was sim locked to AT&T not O2 so he could not help me. I told him that the sim tray and itunes IMEI numbers matched & proved the phone was registered to O2 not AT&T but he said he could not even exchange it for a iphone 4 locked to AT&T because the phone was not registered to me but someone in the USA.

I got home and phoned apple & they told me to post it to them for repair, so i sent the phone off and it was then quickly  returned  to me with a note saying the serial number was not the one registered to me.

Has anyone any ideas what is going on ?

Was the device purchased new from O2 or another retailer in the UK?
Do you still have the paperwork from the purchase that shows the serial or IMEI number?

If you do have that paperwork, take that to Apple to prove your case, otherwise, it sounds like you got scammed somewhere.

seem likely that you got scammed by O2 and try keep fighting with O2 and Apple Store and don't give it up.
