Q: Will Aperture 3.4 performance be OK on an early 2009 iMac

Will aperture 3.4 performance be compatible on an early 209 3.06 dual core iMac with 8GB RAM...???

It works fine on my late 2011 Mac Book Pro, but concerned about its performance on an older iMac.

Thanks.

Mac Book Pro (3), Mac Book (2), iMac (1), iPhone (2), Ipods (4), Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The CPU on your 2011 MBP has a Geekbench score something like over 10,000 while the 2009 iMac has a score of ~4000. The 2009 box also has a much poorer GPU.

That said, with 8 GB RAM it will work. However you should expect significantly slower performance than the MBP.

    Thanks so much Allen...

I have 8 GB RAM in both Macs. I am still running 3.2 on the old i Mac and 3.4 on the MBP...

On the iMac, response is slow, and at times it even freezes and I have to do a hard start. That is why Iam a bit afraid to go to 34 on the iMac. Wish I could put more RAM on these machines but they are limited,I believe, to GB RAM. Not sure if Aperture 3.4 uses more system resources than 3.2, which is one reason why I have hesiutated to upgrade the Aperture on my iMac

By the Way, I am running Lion on both and haven't yet upgaded to Mtn. Lion.

Am tempted to wait for the Mac Pro to come out, rather than get a new iMac I believe the Mac Pro will last longer, been more versatile and I can swap out compnents.

I totally agree, and with MP stocks going to zero some places around the world I do not think it will be all that long before we see new MPs and likely a price drop on older MPs.
