I have an mov file as well as an mp4 file which has audio and video track.

For MOV file:

When the MOV file is played with quicktime, it shows one extra frame in the last.

For example: when the number of frames actually captured from the recording device is 200, quicktime shows the frames as 0-199 but the last two frames both are numbered as 199.So in all it shows 201 frame.

On opening the file in atomic browser or MP4explorer, it will show 200 frames only!!!

For MP4 file:

When the MP4

file is played with quicktime, it also shows one extar frame in the last.

For example: when the number of frames actually captured from the recording device is 200, quicktime shows the frames as 0-200 which actually should be 0-199.

On opening the file in atomic browser or MP4explorer, it will show 200 frames only!!!

My question is:

  • Why is quicktime showing an extra frame in the last for all the files?
  • Why the frame count in case of MOV file not incremented for last frame(which actually is an extra frame) whereas is case of MP4 file it is incremented?

P.S. :The last frame(which is an extra frame) is the duplicate frame of the second last frame(which was supposed to be actual last frame of the file).
