To get rid of the previous owners Apple ID - tap "settings / iCloud" - you will the see their Apple ID, but at the bottom, you can delete it.
To sync your data between your computer and the iPad -
Syncing your iPad or iPod - http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#video-sync.
iOS is the operating system of the iPad. For example, an apple computer has "OS X" operating system. A windows computer would have "Windows Vista or Windows 7" ect. as it's operating system. You iPhone, iPad or iPod, has an iOS operating system.

Thank you for the above information and after following instruction I was not able to:
a) Delete previous owners Apple I.D. I went into cloud but there was not a "Delete" button at the bottom.
I believe I need the password then I could delete it.
b) I again followed the instructions and although it went to 1,2,3 on the top bar showing it was syncing,
but nothing happened after that. I had made sure that I had updated itunes before applying......
c) Thank you for the above explanation re iOS that was helpful but would it tell be on the iPad what generation
it as I believe it to be one of the first or second edition brought out.
