Even though wifi shows full strength on my network with my time capsule, the internet is sporadic and intermittent and the ability to access the backup disk is as well. When I pull up the aiport utility the internet light will go back and forth between yellow and green. Sometimes the timecapsule disk is available and other times it shows an error. This just started a few weeks ago. The only thing I have done is recently replaced the hard disk in the time capsule. However, I don't think the problem started until a while after that. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with my imac since it also has the same problems on our other imac and 2 macbooks in the house.

On the Gen1 TC, you must replace the power supply as well.

The new disk, especially if you replaced it with a large capacity green drive have startup current of >2A.. the power supply is rated at 1.2A. Some are less than that.. with the overheat condition over many years it cannot sustain the current required and the hard disk will have issues spinning up.

I have done some work on fixing TC power supplies.. or replacing them with externals.

Someone in HK is selling genuine ones on ebay.. how or from where.. I don't know.. but don't delay.. he has sold a fair number and I doubt they are in limitless supply.

BUT it is still far better to use external power supply.

The TC gets remarkably hot. Even with a repaired power supply I have had them run the fan.. a very bad condition!!
