Its utter rubbish through !
There is a Great big Alumimium side panel and quite complex locking mechanism and you do not run the Mac Pro without the panel is place as it c**ks up the sensors !
Even if you are bench testing a faulting Mac Pro with the fans running full blast they will stop with a finger and it won't hurt - you may damage the bearing through !
The blades are plastic and bearing very well balanced.
If you were to guard these to comply there effectiveness would diminish ,so you would have to create a horn type enclosure to achieve a similar through-put !
What is really poignant is the regulation is more relevant to the commodity PC and i guarantee those high street builders will be ignorant of the requirements !
They will still build with the cheapest single speed and unguarded propeller !
The Mac Pro is not available in Germany. Anybody know the reason?
Yes. The citizens of Germany and most of the EU vote for politicians that believe its citizens need to be protected in all facets of their life. They further believe that the consumer is too stupid to use appropriate care even when injury is extremely unlikely.
The sad part of this fact is much of the rest of the world is not that far behind.
This decision is politics, not technical.
This is the same government mentality that limits the volume on iPod (in the EU). A few weeks ago I was in a local Apple Store and it was full of British citizens loading up on Apple products (iPods) banned in England because they are dangerous (too loud).
