    Csound1, and All

Because I am not a total D-Bag, and because I really do want to solve this, it's with a heavy and humble heart I submit this to you and all.  (Dramatic, huh?  Well, I am even impassioned in admissions of humility.)

I am no expert, but this is, uh, probably relevant.  Anyone have some insight in light of this?

    http://yahooimapsettings.com

The most pertinent language on this webpage being:

Yahoo! does not provide a standard way to access your email using the IMAP protocol.

While they have a publicly available IMAP server at imap.mail.yahoo.com, it uses a non-standard version of the IMAP protocol. Normal email clients like Microsoft Outlook will not be able to connect to it on their own.

However, you can download a helper application called Yahoo IMAP Connector, which will make the necessary translations between your email client (e.g. Microsoft Outlook), and the Yahoo IMAP servers (imap.mail.yahoo.com) to make everything work correctly.

Yes I know, however there is no Yahoo Imap Connector for Mac Mail, so it's no help.

My advice was not to use Yahoo, I see no reason to change that, thanks.

This is ironic, wheras Csound1 made me think long and hard as to whether I should stay with Yahoo, I had decided to give them one last chance. In the end it is your post (and Csound1's reply to it) that's convinced me to ditch them as my primary account!

You deserve credit though for not giving up on your search for the facts and coming clean when you realised there was more to Csound1's view than a personal crusade against Yahoo.

Hi I'm not sure if this will solve the problem but it certainly helped me.

I was having problems with not being able to access any emails I sent using Mac Mail from the web-yahoo account.

I found this and it helped me fix the problem.  Now when I send an email from Mac Mail I can see it when I access my email via any web browser.  Make sure you select the Yahoo! (or whatever email) "Sent" folder not the one that is listed below your mailboxes.

    http://support.ucscorp.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/99/7/apple-mail -mailapp-not-saving-to-sent-folder

P.S.  Also for any email items that were sent and not originally saved to the server I found them in the Yahoo! email account "Sent" folder (eg. Yahoo!>Sent) which will be in amongst the various folders you would have created in that email account on the left hand side of the Mail screen.  I just copied and pasted the messages into the Sent>Yahoo! folder (once I made the change above) and they all moved to the server.

Hope that is helpful to anyone experiencing this issue.

I have the same issue in Mountain Lion. Apparently still the problem persists, since bloody MAY 2011! REALLY, Apple?!!

I recieved an upgrade with my internet connection that increased my upload from 500 to around 8.000 KBit/s. I sticked with postbox, which was until now more reliabel than mail, but did some testings with mail. Unsaved mails did not happen again since than. I dont know if by chance. Right now I am more or less happy with postbox and not in the mood to move back to mail because both clients do need a slightly different setup of the IMAP server. I fear that after all the work mail could fail again. I will do some more testings here and than and maybe give mail one more try one day. But I can imagine very well that the issue is based on speed and that mail is often not able to handle slower speed while saving sent mails.

it might be a speed issue but we have smoking fast connection here in the office and it still happens, we are a graphic company...

when you least expect it, the problem will raise its ugly head

Even worse: when you least need it ...

Thanks for your reply. So I can use my time moving back to mail for something more promising.

We never left mail, just an ridiculous annoyance that should be fixed... we bcc most important emails back to ourselves which takes care of the problem...

    Here is another unhappy bunny.

Lovely big brand new iMac with Mountain Lion -- and a goodly proportion of my sent items (on me.com or iCloud) just disappear. This problem seems to be ignored by Apple.

Why? Is there no one out there reading this 20+ page 'discussion' ?!

Yes _ I am on an iMac OSX 10.7.5 and have exactly the same problem. The BCC idea sounds like a good temporary workaround. But really, come on Apple - fix it!

I have had the same problem too - it is very random but when it happens it is very anyoing as it's always "the email" you need to have a copy of.

Why is it that a multi national company like Apple who is in the business of providing personal computing and prides itself on customer service so arrogant that it it ignores a serious and fundamental problem like this. It is shocking that this problem exists in the first place but their arrogance in not accepting responsibility or rectifying it is beyond belief. I've had mac from the outset but after having suffered this SERIOUS problem for months and months my loyalty is over. Why pay through the nose for something that doesn't carry out basic functions like saving copies of your sent emails!!!!! I've long been aware that apple test out glitches on new products at the expense of the consumer but this is beyond belief. I agree that the BBC should actually expose this-from what I see there are hundreds and hundreds of people on just this forum alone who would be happy about contributing!!

Yup, me too. Brand new £2k iMac. Just discovered this random fault today when I sent an important e-mail (naturally this wouldn't happen with a trivial one would it!). Had to send a follow-up e-mail to ask if my first one actually arrived. Felt a right numpty having to apologise for my use of a Mac that doesn't do e-mails.

Come on Apple this is embarrassing!

    Is this with Yahoo mail?
