Feb 18, 2013 6:02 AM in response to Apple guideby edex67,You have a version of Linux installed on your Mac, not OS X. Linux is another operating system.
To install OS X, you need to purchase a copy of OS X (preferably Leopard). Or, if you want to remove the password from the Linux (Debian?) install, post back.

Feb 19, 2013 2:39 AM in response to Apple guideby Knucklesmac,Hello,
If there has been an install of Linux on this iBook, then the first thing your going to need to do is format the hard drive to the correct architecture readable by the Mac OS X 10.5 disk.
My suggestion we be, to use the disk to the start the iBook and then use disk utility to format the hard drive.
(Mac extended Journal) Then try and install Mac OS X 10.5
To do this, insert the disk into the drive and hold down 'C'. Wait for the menu to load. Using the top menu, select utilities and then disk utility. Format the drive accordantly.
If your iBook crashes while loading the disk, check your version of the MAC OS X 1.5 disk. If it is a gray system disk, then it wont work with this iBook. You need the full retail version to complete this install. The retail version of this disk has a big X on it and is black.
If the iBook crashes while you holding down the 'C' key. Try holding down the option key and selecting the disk.

Feb 19, 2013 4:14 AM in response to Knucklesmacby edex67,The problem seems to be the OS X Leopard disk doesn't boot at all, it simply crashes. The OP doesn't even reach the Select Language screen.

Feb 19, 2013 4:39 AM in response to edex67by Knucklesmac,If the OP can't get any further than holding down 'C' before crashing, then they should try holding the option key.
This would indicate a faulty disk or they are using a copy desk that is corrupt.
A kernel panic like this could also be down to a internal hardware fault. It hard to diagnose if no disk will run for the drive.
If this was mine, I would first try the Apple hardware test disk and see if that boots.
