Q: I couldn't install Final Cut studio 2.0.1 after installing Mountain Lion 10.8

After installing Mountain Lion 10.8, I couldn't install Final Cut studio 2.0.1-the same software that I had bought and used with Snow Leopard. Please advise.

Final Cut Studio '09, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

FCS 2 requires that you install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

This works on Mac OS X 10.7, I have not tried it on 10.8.

I recently postulated that Rosetta has nothing to do with this problem and that use of an installation instruction in Terminal should be able to install this program, here:

Not having the program, Final Cut Studio, myself, I am unable to confirm this theory and I am looking for confirmation that it works for the OP here.

Thanks Michael and Nick for the quick reply. I use the application programs to do my things but computer- science-wise, i am an idiot. Names and terminology like you guys used confuse me more. I'd like to try Terminal, if I could get more detailed instructions from you. I did find Terminal on my Mac and I would let you know if Terminal would solve the issue with FCS, but I just didn't know what to do with it. More help, please.

Is this instruction correct? sudo installer -package /Volumes/Final\ Cut\ Studio/Installer/FinalCutStudio.mpkg -target /

Terminal is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

Try your quoted instruction in Terminal with the installer disc in the optical drive and let me know what happens.

If it works, it may take a few hours of time that seemingly nothing is happening, so maybe try it and then go to sleep!

    Hi Michael,

I launched Terminal, opened a new window, copied and pasted your instruction line with FCS disc in the optical drive. I still got the same nessage: PPC applications are no longer supported.

Darn!  I wish I could get my hands on that program to work this out once and for all.  It is for sale uses, but the $200+ cost is just not something I can absorb just for the intellectual exercise, since I do not use this program.

    Are you anywhere near LA?

I used to live in LA. I am working overseas now. I forgot to mention that when I pasted the instruction line onto Terminal window, nothing happened except the fact it wouldn't let me type the password in.

I bought FCS for more than 1000 bucks if my memory is still good.

I am now confused by this statement since you earlier said you got the "PPC applications no longer supported" response.

After all the things I did as mentioned, I saw nothing happened so I tried to launch FCS from the disc. That's when I got the message.

As I mentioned earlier, there will be an hours long period of "apparently" nothing happening after you hit RETURN in Terminal after typing (or better yet, copying and pasting) the instruction line into it.

I had suggested you attempt this at a time when you could then go to sleep and see what appears in the morning when you rise.

    Try it again tonight...

OK. I just leave it like that until tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

There is no feedback when typing your Admin password into Terminal, not even the usual ••••••••• that appears in the LogIn window. It still happens though.
