Same thing here... updated to 6.1.2 and my WiFi still won't work! It's still pretty much GREY and without any function.
Thank you Apple for ignorance, thank you for IGNORING so BIG problem that users of iPhone 4S have!
Thank you for opening my eyes, now it's time to say goodbye and go somewhere else where they apriciate users and costumers and give them solutions for BUG they have made.

Since this isn't a bug in the iOS, rather a problem with your phone, there never will be a "fix" as such.  The fact that you are incapable of understanding the problem doesn't change anything.

However you have a great idea to go in another direction and leave this forum

Any chance you can provide us with link to that place where they apriciate... and give ...

I'm not quite sure I agree with you in your stance that this problem isn't a bug in the iOs, and rather a problem with our phones (hardware).  The fact of the matter is all of us who are experiencing this annoying issue had zero problems before updating the iOS, so at the time before the update our phone/hardware was perfectly fine...so whether somebody wants to blame it on the hardware or software it doesnt matter...the updates are what caused our wifi to not work anymore...

On a similar note, for anybody reading this forum I've come across something interesting that makes me more convinced that this is indeed a problem with the software interacting with the wifi chip.  Let me start by saying that I have been having this greyed out wifi problem like many others and tried pretty much everything posted online to try and make it work....nothing worked for me...atleast until I performed the following steps which allow my wifi to work for short periods of time...here it goes..

    1) Download the flashlight app by mobiletrends inc. business

    2) Turn the settings to the brightest settings and leave the flashlight on until it 100% drains your battery

    3) Leave phone for 24hrs and recharge....when fully charged check wifi settings and might not be greyed out anymore...atleast that's how it went for me

    ---watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-57z2uj0gE

Like I said, this worked for me, however there seems to be some downfalls...the wifi still seems to cut out randomly, and also, if i power my phone off and turn back on, the greyed out wifi will be back, so then i have to open up the flashlight app again and drain the battery once again.  So there are my reasons why I believe this problem is not directly related to hardware, because if the wifi chip was defective then it should never work.

It seemed that modular747 is so certain that the Wi-Fi grayed-out problem is our iPhones' problem not Apple's problem, then bad luck guys, please try the following as your last resort, or, as kindly requested by modular747---leave this forum:

    1. Back up

    2. Restore as a new iPhone

    3. If it still doesn't work, and hopefully your iPhone is still within the one-year warranttee, you might get a replacement; or, you would need to pay, e.g., CHF209 for a new iPhone 4S.

I have tried all the suggested solutions that I could find from the internet but none of them worked! And I made an online appointment and visited the Apple Store recenlty, it was exactly like what modular747 said, 'there never will be a ''fix'' as such...'----it seemed that Apple was so well aware of the Wi-Fi grayed out problem that they didn't even try to fix my phone but simply checked the warranttee expiry date!!!

Yes, myself and probably a lot of other users who suffer the same problem are incapable of understanding the problem (as our phones' problem)---------the phone was well protected like brand new, but how come all of a sudden after updating to iOS 6.0.1 the Wi-Fi was completely grayed out???!!!

Anyway, I gave up the hope and would try no more.

Maybe if you bother to read what I posted on the previous page, showing that the grayed out wifi has been ongoing for 5 years and has occurs after every iOS update Apple has ever issued, you might begin to understand.

If restoring doesn't help, only replacing the phone will help. Avoid the ad hoc phallacy which is the source of almost all superstitions.

    @modular747

By user responses here, clearly you understand that your help is not appreciated on this forum! May be you can concentrate on all the other forums that you have been actively helping upon.

Also, unless you are the silent moderator from Apple, i guess you should not be the one to decide who needs to leave this forum.

We have tried various options that have been suggested in Apple's troubleshooting steps and our phones are still not working as expected.

Most of us do understand that possibly it never will, unless replaced. Some of us, die hard Apple patrons, also hope that Apple will probably own up the responsibility and figure out a way to fix this (in hardware or in software).

Then why are we here on this support forum? This may be your next question:-

We're here because  this is a place where users having a common greyed out wifi have come together. And..

1.We hope that some user will find out some magical fix that we can apply to get our wifi back

    OR

2.We have a grieviance and we take this as the place to express ourselves. Unlike in the past where apple maintained an active email id for support at which it also responded to users, there is none now. Or at least none that i know of.

We hope that Apple will pick up customer feedback from here!

I hope this makes you see some reason and will help you curtail some of your agression.

    Thanks!

Was so excited to see there was an update, then equally disappointed when the update did nothing at all to help w grayed out WiFi button.

Why did the iphone5 problems get attention but not these? Seems like there are lots of us with this issue...(meaning 4S iPhones)

Were all trying our best to figure out this problem. I know alot of people who have the 4s and they do not have this issue. I dont think this issue happened on purpose.

    Try contacting apple.

restore as other posts have said

    Watch youtube video as well.

Kinda weird how everything is alright but the update affected the wifi and only wifi. Nothing else. Hmmm.

    @Cscience1

Are you also trying to suggest that only wifi was intentionally destroyed?

I did read such a view on one of the other forums from one of the annoyed user but never thought it could be for real.

I wasnt trying to suggest anything. I was thinking why this issue was appointed to the wifi. But i was saying that maybe watching youtube videos or other post might give you an answer. I just hope apple fixes issue right away.

    Bug maybe.

Technology doesn't seem to work these days.

Im trying to find answers to put on this post. But basically all of them are all we already suggested in this thread.

How classic.  You boldly go where all trolls have gone before.  You only want to complain and bash Apple, and exclude anyone who doesn't buy into your agenda

We hope that some user will find out some magical fix that we can apply to get our wifi back

    Keep on wishing.

We're here because  this is a place where users having a common greyed out wifi have come together.

Yet you put no effort into researching this problem that goes way back before this update.  It's obvious you don't really give a s*** what's really happening.

Also, unless you are the silent moderator from Apple, i guess you should not be the one to decide who needs to leave this forum.

Im not a host here and do not decide who participates, unlike you who want to exclude all criticism of your uninformed "opinions."  YOU threatened to boycott Apple and I welcomed your decision, which renders you irrelevant to this site.
