My iPad2 works sporadically no matter which wifi router I am connected to. The only solution is to reset the device.  I like the iPad, and would like to upgrade to another in the future, but based on what appears to be bad components being installed in iOS devices and at premium prices, I am reconsidering.

Just browse through the support problems with no solutions. some of the complaints are foolish, but in my time of owning an iPhone and iPad, I've seen too many problems being ignored to ignore.

    Hello everyone,

I had the same issues with my ipad 2 and D-link dir-615. It dropped connection every 5-7 minutes while all my other devices worked fine (iphones, macbook, android phones). I played a lot with router and ipad settings and here is what I finished with (no connection drops for 1 day for now):

    Router:

    802.11 Mode : g only

    Auto Channel Scan : off

    Wireless Channel : ch 6

    Security Mode : WPA-Personal

    WPA Mode : WPA2 Only

    Cipher Type : AES

    iPad:

    IP Address : Static

    HTTP Proxy : Off

The last two things I've changed are "802.11 n and g" to "802.11g only" and cipher type from "TKIP and AES" to "AES". I guess one of these two solved the problem.

    Hope that will be helpfull.

.i had the same problem with both my ipad and my iphone4 and 4s.. i updated them and the things didnt want to connect or would connect but randomly drop the signal all together or flat out refuse to connect to a router that i knew worked with the devices prior to the ios update and in fact this happened to me starting with upgrading from 4.0 right up to current release and you know how i fixed it? reinstalled the software and instead of restoring it from a back up set it up as a new device.. problem meet solution..at least for me...

if you have not tried this please do. some of you or maybe even all of you may be plesently surprised.

you should also do the update via usb cable using the computer i found it worked the first time without a hitch..

i should also mention that once you do this and discover your i device working properly you can then try to restore the phone from a previously backed up version... dont ask why i know its rediculus that you have to do this but its a work around that i discovered recently that worked on all of my devices that had this issue. this will be hit or miss though as i had an iphone 4 that wouldnt do it but my ipad 2 and iphone 4s did.. and my wifes 3gs was a nightmare but eventually i was able to get it to work. and also if you have NEVER reset your router during the time you have had this problem i would recomend doing so.. it cant hurt anything and ive noticed that some people simply have a router issue where it needs to be reset.. for instence you type in your passkey to join the network and you know you typed it correctly but the error comes up that you cant connect.. so thats a quick fix too for some.. not all but some.

for those of you trying to use free wifi in the work place or other places, its the router not your ipad.

    Great!!! My problem was solved!

Used your configuration only for the router. Didn't change Ipad 2 configuration.

    Router:

    802.11 Mode : g only

    Auto Channel Scan : off

    Wireless Channel : ch 6

    Security Mode : WPA-Personal

    WPA Mode : WPA2 Only

    Cipher Type : AES

    Thanks a lot Mikhail-V

iOS6.1 seems to have solved my problems so far.

    Not mune.

Two ipad 2s.  One drops the connection, one doesn't, which is insane.  Upgraded to 6.1 ... Still drops.

Do these problems go away if you buy an Airport!  I'd spend the money at this point.

My problem had gone by changing the router to Netgear WGR614 Wireless-N 150 Router

    http://www.flipkart.com/netgear-wgr614-wireless-n-150-router/p/itmdffys9gjghbzz? pid=RTRDFFYGDHZKZH4Y&ref=f726b979-32bc-415b-900a-0770690bb335&srno=t_2&otracker= from-search&query=netgear

Whatever router you are currently using, set the password at wpa personal.

    Best,

    Indranil.

Sorry to say this, but WiFi problem clearly exists and Apple is ignoring it. Therefore, I will definitely drop off the Apple and change to Android. If Steve Jobs is still with us, I'm sure such things wouldn't happen. I have 20 years professional networking experience and couldn't find solution that really works for almost a year. Apple should do something about it or such customer approach will reflect on stock market.

No they do recongize the problem! I called today with some guy from apple saying they are aware of the wifi problem.. Yet, a solution isn't coming soon I think but they are working on it! (I'm thinking about a month/2)

Another solution they told: buy an apple router

I am so mad. I just upgraded my iPad 2 yesterday and it won't find my wifi at home now. I have tried everything. I mean really? It's just not finding it. My husbands iPad 1 is on fine, so is my kindle and my 4s.

It seems like all problems started with my first upgrade. My iPad 2 worked fine until that. Nooten, I agree with you. They recognize it, but do nothing to fix it. I call it ignorance. Anyone knows how to downgrade to original bios? This is only thing I didn't try.  I don't buy router incompatibility story. Wifi is well defined technical standard(s) and if something is incompatible, it is iPad.

I'm having the same problem, and I have an Airport. It's the same at my work-my laptop picks up signal just fine, but the iPad 2 has to be in the room with the router. New iPads for everybody!

After a year of no issues this problem just started for me yesterday on my iPad2.  I am computer challenged, where/how do I change my router settings?

Gave up on this after obtaining a new router from BT, yet still same problem occurred.

Spoke to a computer repair specialist who recommended purchasing a wireless booster kit, have now done this, purchased a Devolo 1409 dLAN 200 AV Kit from Amazon, very easy to install, has resolved the problem and all devices now working anywhere in the house.

Hope this helps, no idea why signal had become so weak and not just an iOS 6 issue, as my iPad 1 also effected which still operates on iOS 5.
