Q: upgrading from lion server to M-Lion server

Why do I need to purchase mountain lion and install then download mountain lion server? Will the mountain lion client erase my server and the settings. Not very intuitive. App store said I had to have the non-server installed first then download the server version. Probably, an unlock of features.

MacBook Pro, OS X Server, Lion server

i tried it yesterday, it was a disaster.

first i installed the mountain lion client over my lion server. installation works fine, no problems. then i downloaded the osx server app from the app store. installation seem to be work fine. but my most important services not running after upgrade. mail server was half configured and don't come up and the webserver all my configuration was there but the vhosts does not work. the next strange thing was, that i have no serveradmin binary on the cli. i have read inconsistently statements whether the binary have to be there in mountain lion or not.

i don't know what my problem was or what i have done wrong (error messages see  https://discussions.apple.com/message/21291540#21291540) but i was very angry and restored my lion server via time machine. the restore works perfectly :-). can someone tell me what i have done wrong? i have read the upgrade and migration guide befor upgrade (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5381)

my next upgrade i will try in vmware if i get my server in there.

    kind regards

    manuel
