Googling shows that version 4.0.1 is compatible with the 2G iPod.
You said you got error -1202. What where did you get the error? What were you doing?
You also asked "Where are the iPod actual backup files located?"?
What do you mean? The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.
App are included in your iTunes Media Library. Since you were able to find some app (.ipa files0 you seem to have found where they are located)
The error came at FB log in, after entering my username and password.
I'm wondering if there's an actual folder somewhere deeper in the OS where I can browse through older backups of my iPod, to restore from. Although when syncing it says "backing up", there are no backups in iTunes except a couple that I have done manually, since reading through a few threads here. I thought it automatically backed up.
If iTunes doesn't backup synced media like apps and music then what does it back up? I mean, a back up is a copy, right? That's why we backup.
I've found all the .ipa files backed up from the last 12 months, but they won't reinstall, making my $500 iPod virtually useless for my needs.
- For what is in the iPod backup that iTunes makes see:
- You asked "I'm wondering if there's an actual folder somewhere deeper in the OS where I can browse through older backups of my iPod, to restore from." No there is not, the backup does not include app. Also, unless your restore from a backup, iTunes only retains one backup. It updates the previous backup when your subsequently back up.
- I would contact the FB app developers concerning the error.
Thanks very much. What a useless sort of back up! Imagine if when we backed up our computers we didn't get the software too...I mean to say! And no "Time Machine" like backups within iTunes...come on Apple...
Interestingly, there is no Mobile Sync Folder on my computer as shown in iTunes: About iOS backups
"Also, unless your restore from a backup, iTunes only retains one backup."
So if I want to restore from a backup, where is it?
I will try and contact FB Developers, although they'll probably tell me they no longer offer supprt for older versions and I should buy a new iPod.
The backup is:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
However, if you have Mountain Lion, it is very hard to find it since to help avoid usrs from modify many files, Apple in Mountain Lion hides it (in this case the gneral Library foldermobilesync.
For how to restore from backup see:
