I did call Apple when the issue arose initially, but they wanted me to pay for the new discs, which I felt was outrageous for what I had just paid for the computer. As for the time it has taken me to get this solved, my son was murdered within the same timeframe and many things have gotten put on the back burner.

The discs should have been replaced for free ... within warrenty period.
Try again. They might still.
A small fee will apply.
Restore Tiger 10.4 & Leopard 10.5 DVDs are available from Apple by calling 800-767-2775 as of January 20, 2013.
PS. Sorry to hear about the death of your son.
