iCloud. If you are debating which one to use for a new email account, go directly to the horse. Nothing works better with Apple than to stay within the ecosystem.Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iPad 4, iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1)

I'm using Gmail, iCloud, yahoo, and hotmail with my iPad. In my opinion it doesn't matter because Apple make them work seamlessly on the device. However, you should still choose an email based on the features you need and preference like storage capacity, push email, imap or pop3 servers.

Thse forums are littered with threads from folks who would disagree with you that these outside accounts work seemlessly with iOS devices.
I have a Gmail and a Hotmail account. I configured both of them to forward mail to my iCloud account. That works seamlessly and my iOS devices are staying within the ecosystem and not having to constantly negitiate with the other mail servers.Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iPad 4, iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1)
