Sounds like something is frozen. Keep in mind, you should minimize the amount of applications you have open at once, to only the ones you are using. Quit all other applciatons.

Thank you Karen for the quick response... Unfortunately I'm not able to access the finder icon because the only thing on my computer is the sign in to the computer before it opens to all the icons? I try clicking on the option command and esc button but to no avail.

I just called "technical support" i told them that my computer froze, they told me to hold the power bottom for 7 sec until the computer turns off, then turn it back on. And it did. Now my computer is working just fine I just had to follow directions on down loading etc..
Karen, you were right about minimizing the amount of applications I open at once to only the one I am using.
