It depends on where the Albums or Photos came from.
If the Album or photo was synced to your device via iTunes, the only way to delete them is by deleting the photos through the iTunes sync.
On the other hand, if the photo or album was created on the iPad, you can tap Edit on the photo or album and see a red trash can to delete it.

I have no idea whether or not the photo and/or album was synced through iTunes! But since there is no red trash can when I tap Edit, I assume it was synced.
However, I do not understand how to find the album in iTunes since it is not labeled. Also one album says that it is a camera roll.
One album displays a cover slide which is not mine! And, I woud like to delete that slide and insert one of my own slides.
One slide appears as a cover which simply says "Lyric" which I would like to delete.
There are other slides and albums which I would like to delete, too.
I would appreciate instructions and/or links for instructions on how to delete those items.
Thanks for your help.

Under "View and Organize Photos", there is a section on deleting photos.

Thanks for your reply. However, the link did not give any help at all for deleting a photo or album in iPhoto for iPad! Clicking on a photo and edit did not provide a way to delete the photo nor could I delete an album.
Using the app "Photos" that comes with the iPad, there does appear a "trash can" icon with which a photo can be deleted and it works in "Photos", but there is not a "trash can" icon in iPhotos to do so! I have looked and checked it carefully more than once.
Any other suggestions and help will be appreciated, too.

how did you create your album or import your photos to iPhoto?
Not all photos and albums can be deleted iPhoto. If you synced the photos from your Mac, they can only be dleted by removing them from the synced albums on your Mac and syncing again. Only photos taken with your device can be deleted directly from your device using the Photos.app. Photos in the edited album, or tagged albums will be removed from these albums by removing the tags.
Depending on how your photos and video clips were added to iPhoto, do one of the following:
- Photos and video clips taken with your device: Open the Photos app on your device, tap Camera Roll, tap to select the photos, and tap .
- Photos and video clips you synced to your computer using iTunes: Connect your device to your computer and, in iTunes, deselect the photos and video clips you want to remove from your device. Click Apply, and click Sync.
- Photos in the Beamed, Photo Box, iTunes, or [App] album: Tap a photo, tap (tap Edit if you don’t see the tool), tap Delete Photo, and tap Delete.
