Try a Safe Mode boot (hold Shift while booting).
Should get a default resolution, which will allow you to access System Prefs before rebooting normally.
Could also do a PRAM reset.

How can something so simple work so well? Thanks. I didn't mess with the SMU/PMU reset yet. waiting to see what goes on here first but I can't thank you enough. No sleep last night because of the work load. Now I can go take a nap.
