Hi everyone. I recently updated to 6.1.2 yesterday and haven't noticed a difference as of yet.

I have had a love affair with Apple since my first iPod. With that being said...this is my first iPhone (I have the 5) and I couldn't be more in love with it. I'm so glad I finally left my old carrier behind and joined the iPhone world. I've had a Samsung slider, HTC, LG, Motorola, Blackberry, Nokia...but no phone yet filled my needs like my iPhone does.

As tech savvy as I consider myself, I don't care for Android. I have no use for the extra customization features that Android tries to sell. I like the simplicity of Apple. I feel the highly researched and loyal users out there can understand to the fullest extent of what I mean.

What Lawrence is saying 'clicked' in my head.

I will admit, when doing updates I generally don't do more than the auto restart. Like I mentioned above, I've owned a Blackberry and habits die hard...I like to reset my phone every few days.

While this may not seem all that necessary, it could be imperative when 'x' is looping in the background. Essentially, I compare my phone to my computer. After its been running for so long things HAVE to get clogged in the virtual spaces of my phone. I'm sorry, I don't live in a perfect world and my phone, as intelligent as it is, still and will always have flaws. Tell me a device out there that doesn't have it's kinks and has the same following as Apple.

(Fun fact: Q4 iPhone 4S and 5 overtook Galaxay III sales http://m.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_5_and_4s_tops_global_smartphone_shipments_for _q4_2012_-news-5575.php

To be fair the Galaxay 4 drops March 14th. iPhone 5 was released end of Q3)

    What works for me:

I think I get about 7 hours of use give or take after I take it off the charger.

Every couple of days I let it die on it's own.

-I try to remember to let it fully charge from a fully dead battery.

    I've disabled the iCloud syncing.

    I've disabled the Exchange Calendar.

I use minimal brightness and generally keep it there.

-But, I do leave the auto-brightness on.

Auto-lock set at 1 minute unless I'm doing extensive reading that doesn't involve interaction with the screen. (It get sets to 3 mins)

I've received conflicting reports on 'force closing' apps and because of it, am less anal retensive, but I do try to close out apps (double clicking home screen button)

(When I remember) I disable my wifi if I'm not using it/not near it.

I delete cookies and history every so often in Safari.

-I do A LOT of browsing.

I've set mail to fetch hourly on two mailboxes, the other two are manual.

I tend to stay from music apps unless I have a charger with me.

I DO NOT turn off location privacy, I will take the battery drain. I'm so scatterbrained that 'Find my iPhone' has saved my butt.

I hope I helped someone, someway. My apologies if I offended anyone, but this IS the Apple website. (You know how proud Apple is so why would you be

I'm essentially in a relationship with my iPhone and for now Apple, we may continue until you leave my flat on my face.

P.s Isn't it redundant to post on the Apple Communities forum where people ask for help or solutions for their problems and people leave comments like, 'I'm leaving, this *****, etc'. I know, know freedom of speech.

@Lawrence Finch...thank you on many levels.  First and foremost, for a way to fix the battery issue that I was having (I shut off all of the email components...mail, calendar, contacts, reminders...then did a RESET and then reactivated thos components...problem solved).  Second, thanks for a well-reasoned, simple approach to diagnosing the problem and identifying a series of possible fixes.  I'm a big fan of common sense (especially when it comes to tech).  Thanks again!

You need to "sort it out". There's an app on your phone that is stuck in a loop sending data or attempting to send and failing. This is a common problem, and is not unique to any particular version of iOS; battery drain has been observed with every version back to 1.0 (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4824373#21302699. )

You can fix it by identifying the app. Mail is a common offender. If you have an Exchange email account or an iCloud account go into Settings and turn it off. Then reboot the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. After the phone comes back on (about a minute) turn the accounts back on. Facebook is another heavy battery user. Kill it in the Quick Launch ribbon, along with any other apps that can receive notifications or run in background.

If all else fails restore the phone using iTunes and set up as a new phone. You will probably note that the battery drain is gone. You can restore your backup then. If the problem comes back you have data corruption in your backup.

Another step that sometimes resolves the problem is to run the battery down until the phone shuts off (which kills all processes running on the phone), then charge for 4 hours with the wall charger.

I've had this same problem when I upgraded my iPhone 4 from 5.1.1 to 6.0, and again to 6.1. Both times I was able to fix it by doing a restore as a new phone. I don't think I will upgrade again until I read that this is sorted out.I have to disagree with you, in that it must be some sort of software issue, since the rapid battery drain didn't happen until I upgraded(?) to iOS 6.0. It seems iOS 6 allows some process to run, causing the batter drain. My phone was also notably warm to the touch until I did the restore as new phone trick.

    YES!!!

The battery goes down so fast!

But I noticed that, also with the original 6.0, lately, the battery life was reduced...

I am soooo frustrated with this latest update.  I actually never had any battery problems with the ios 6.0 launch, but since this recent update my battery is draining 1% every other minute.  Now I have to charge it at least 3 times a day and leave it plugged in all night so that my alarm would work in the morning.  The first day after I updated, my phone died over night and I was late for work next day because my daily alarm didn't go off.  NOT HAPPY, APPLE, fix this!!  Here is what I've tried already that DID NOT WORK-

    1. reset network settings

    2. uninstalled and reinstalled exchange accounts (did not make a difference)

    3. unsynched exchange calendar

    4. full restore and reinstalled as new phone (lost some apps and had to re-install and re-update everything)

Now I'm about to try to drain the battery to recalibrate it, does anyone know if this will improve the battery life?

Same here, after updating to 6.1.2 last night, a full charged battery won't last couple of hours, this is the second time I charge my 4s in like 6 hours, it's getting hot too.

The battery wasn't that bad before updating, I mean it used to last me a day!!!

    Any ideas?

Same here, battery life on stanby ~4 hours.

    USERS BEWARE:

Don't do multiple charges a day, this will kill your battery, leave the phone plugged in to AC (home charger, computer or car charger) until Apple fixes the problem.

Same here, battery goes down without doing anything on the phone. Died twice yesterday. The 6.1.1 was performing much better than this piece of useless release patch of 6.1.2.

APPLE! Do you even test these patches before releasing them? How can so many people experience same problem overnight? This is ridiculous.

Same here.. Had some improvements making some proofs:

I tried to delete exchange account, switched off icloud mail and rebooted, result: battery drain stopped

Deleted only mail and left calendar and notes: battery keep on draining fast

At the moment I rebooted twice and now I'm without the exchange account and the battery draining is finally stopped

Utter hogwash. Charge as often as you like. And don't wait for Apple to fix the problem, because they won't. Fix it yourself; it isn't that hard.

You can probably turn the Exchange account back on and everything will be OK. You've cleared the corrupt data in the calendar or notes that was causing the problem.

Then, whats the point of having a smart phone if you are deleting everything that make it such.

I upgraded to IOS 6.1.2 last night with both my iphone5 and mini - the mini had stellar battery life and now it ticks down like a clock.  I have tried several times today to get help on chat with no success - it may be Apple is getting a lot of attention today - Fix this please - repost 6.1.1 for those of that it will help.

I never said to delete anything. Were you responding to someone else? In fact I said to restore the deleted account.
