I think more and more people are starting to realize just how much potential coverflow has now.

Since you brought it up I wanted to add my two cents here.

    ...

My only problem with Cover Flow is that when I spot an album I'd like to play as an album (as opposed to a as a Playlist or as individual tracks), I have to switch to the album or grid views, or switch to a different sorting field.

I'd like to see Cover Flow come back with integration to the new Expanded view. In other words, I'd like to double-click on the album art in Cover Flow and have the album open in Expanded view on top. Alternately, it would be nice to hover the mouse over an album in Cover Flow and see a Play button appear so I can play the album from the beginning without switching views.

I'm trying to conceptualize this, but I really cannot. I use Cover Flow exclusively and when I want to play an album, I click on the cover, then play. The album plays in its entirety. And because I've set random-album behaviour, it flitters off to some other album at the end and carries on with another complete album unless I interrupt it and choose something different.

Can you shed more light on this?

We used to have the ability to have up to six images as part of an album or single-- so we could have the standard front, the back, the inside, and maybe a scan of our autographed CD.

    Back when--

As long as we're compiling a wish list and leaving feedback for the hoped-for reintroduction of Cover Flow, I'll throw song lyrics into the mix.  It's silly that apps such as Soundhound can give you karaoke-style scrolling lyrics on your phone, downloaded in real time from an online database, but iTunes cannot.  Of course, people do complain about iTunes "bloat" and maybe this type of thing is what they mean But the point is, some type of attractive full-screen player, preferably customizable, is important to a lot of people.

New iTunes update and still no coverflow.

I am a Windows PC user and have always prefered the UI of Windows.  The one thing I really loved about Apple UI is Coverflow on most of their software.  The one Apple software I use the most is iTunes and the best part of the UI of the iTunes music library was Coverflow.  Since they took it away I have not been very happy.  Now we get a new update and still no Coverflow.

    Pathetic!

Im not very tech savy and at 60 I can remember playing 45's ,,,but I can digitize an LP and I do LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! music. If I wasnt able to have the artwork download automatically I always found the musics art be it an 8 track or 45 or my own music, and move the picture file over to the box. It was very important to me to have the Album cover art flow and I used to watch it on my 27" moinitor while I am working or like this gentleman who had it on his big tv in livingroom through my Apple TV. A lot of thought goes into cover art and I liked to look down the list of artists and see all the lps available for each. It helps me choose what I want to listen to each day. In a nutshell the new Itunes is very limiting, hard to use, the buttons and drop downs are tiny and there is no help button that I can find??????? Today they did another update and I was hoping to get back to a normal common sense look but it is still screwed up. Im so glad I didnt do the update to my main music computer. Sorry for ranting but I hope APPLE returns to helping people and being user friendly which was in their dna I thought.

Hi Trane. Yes, the album will play in it's entirety, and then play another album afterwards, but it won't necessarily play the songs in the correct order -- that depends on what sort field you're using. I usually sort by date added in order to bring my most recent purchases to the top. The songs will play in backwards order in the case of a CD rip, because clicking on the album will select the first song at the top of the list, which is that last song added in the case of the sort I usually use. That's a problem in the case of live albums and classical music, but it bothers me even on pop albums to play the songs in backwards order.

So playing the songs in the correct order requires me to re-sort or to switch to the grid or album view. It's not a big deal -- just a little awkwardness and a few extra clicks that keeps Cover Flow from being perfect. My wish is for a play button to appear right on the album art in Cover Flow; additionally, it would be nice for a doiible-click to bring up the new Expanded view.

It's becoming pretty clear that Apple is ignoring its customers who want Cover Flow back. So are there alternatives out there that can sync easily with iOS devices? Anybody tried DoubleTwist, SongBird, etc?

I've tried just about everything I could find. Some were better than others. Didn't find anything I'd be willing to use. Of course, that might change now that there is an opportunity due to Apple dropping the ball.

Ah, I see. Well, that makes total sense to me that it would behave like that. The last song on a rip is, of course, the newest addition to the library. I think I have a solution for you, though: Edit the Recently Added smart list to give you the duration that you need to show enough of your collection's recent additions and then just play your albums (in proper order) from there. Of course, the newest album will be at the end of the play list, but scrolling through the covers is quick and painless (for me). If you put in a rule to remove items from that (or a similar) list that have already been played, then you can have a new-additions playlist  that is only seeded with the stuff you haven't yet heard.

    Cheers.

    affenpinscher,

I used the free app cover stream, for awhile, but then decided to just use Spotify. iTunes and Spotify look fairly similer now, except that itunes uses a white background, while spotify uses black. Spotify lets you play almost anything in mp3 quality for free, except for songs by Led Zeppelin & The Beatles. Still Spotify will play them, as long as the songs are saved on your compter. I have about 7000 thousand tracks in iTunes, some are downloaded, but most are CD rips. Still in Spotify I have over 17,000 tracks. For a small monthly fee, you can even bring your entire library with you on your cell. The only time that I use itunes, anymore is when syncing my ipod touch PDA. I even told apple this, in a the link that was posted. Apple has completely ignored all my comments, so I just decided two can play that game.

    Hi Kling...

Same here... I am simply appalled at the disregard they showed those of us to whom the album art is important. And, like you, I am sooooooo glad I still have iTunes 10 for my main library.... and it is NOT gonna get upgraded... and as far as album art goes... I thought iTunes 9 was best... scalable art in column view... I LOVED that and was supremely bummed when they changed it to just small, medium and large (yea, right) and put the album title to the side of the art instead of under it... and NOW!!! They dump cover flow?!?!?!?!!!... I would have never have guessed they'd do that....

I would have loved to see what went on in the design meetings, and what or who mentioned to take out cover flow. I just wished someone who had access to interviewing someone at Apple to ask about that...but I am sure they will give a well crafted answer to avoid directly answering those questions as it won't help to support their current decision to axe such a great functionality.

What frustrates me more with iTunes 11 is that I cannot edit my other tracks album art or edit genre/album whilst currently playing anotehr album... I cannot edit. Also the fact that I can't view my album art when I group tracks of an album together pressing command i... I have to view them individually...how sad.

Given that I'm now resigned to sticking at 10.7, why do Apple keep packaging iTunes updates in with other things that I do need?  Yes I can split them out, but it incresaes the risk of getting a non-Cover Flow iTunes getting in in error.

Also, will Apple provide a clear warning on any future iPhone updates that wouldn't work with 10.7.  I hope so, as I'll reject them too.
