Allow me to clarify what I meant when I said “by design”. When you reply to a message with an inline attachment using Outlook or a Blackberry they include the inline attachment when they quote the original message. Replying with an iPhone causes the image to be replaced by “<image001.png>” in the quote of the OM. When the clean up feature analyzes the message in a conversation it seems to think the actual image and “<image001.png>” are equal. So when I say “by design”, I am referring to the cumulative effect of how the email clients reply to a message + how clean up processes messages.
I have a work around: marking the message that has the attachment with a category (color). This is not a great work around. I hope there is a setting on the iPhone that controls this, the behavior described in the previous paragraph, that I’ve missed (any suggestions?). Otherwise it would be great if Apple changes the way the Mail app works OR Microsoft makes the clean up feature more intelligent.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
