I bought this Mid 2011 27" iMac, which had 2x2GB sticks of RAM, which is 4GB. However when I start the computer I have 2GB free memory, then as I open programs that gets chewed up really quickly, down to 1GB, and in most cases if I have say Google Chrome, Photoshop, iTunes all open I have 20mb free memory left. Yes those programs are resource intensive, but I never imagined my Mac to not cope with them considering its meant to have 4GB of RAM.

I've tried SMC and PRAM resetting, purging in terminal, deleting files, keeping my desktop and recycling bin clean etc, but to little avail.

I just wish I had usage of all 4GB, not to mention the cores its meant to have (I have yet to see a great performance out of this Mac).

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
