i am having a devil of a time finishing up my various contact databases because i have a boatload of business cards and then i have a Mac Contacts databases and then i have this dumb issue where email addresses that i have responded to on my various devices only exist in a database that allows mac mail to autocomplete BASED ON THE PREVIOUS RECIPIENTS ON THAT DEVICE.

this is of course exceptionally dumb and aggravating since if i take a trip i cannot contact someone whom i know sent me an email because i just happened to have responded to their email from my desktop computer and their contact email does not exist on my iPhone or on my Mac Pro. to make matters worse - if i ARCHIVE my mail in the On My Mac section of my Mac Pro, i won't even be able to look up their email address by doing a search for an email they sent me since their email will now reside solely on my Mac Pro at home.

anyway, is there a better solution to this than simply dumping all my Previous Recipients from my Mac Pro and my MacBook Pro into contacts? i mean, presumably if i SORT ALL MY CONTACTS INTO GROUPS prior to doing this massive add of all these email addresses, i could then later go into mac mail and sort the contacts (in this case they will simply be email addresses) into a very dumb folder called "Previous Recipients" for the simple reason that i need these emails to be in Contacts so i can get Mac Mail to let me send an email to someone...

anybody feel me on this?

should i be using different software to organize contacts? is there some magic bullet that fixes this hinked up herky jerk dosey do?

THANKS

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), with 64 bit Win7 Boot Camp | iCloud

Open Mail, open the Previous Recipients Window, select all entries and press ....

    Hi Csound1.

    1. i sure wish there was a way to designate and incoming email address as having been added to my Contacts database instead of simply seeing this in the responded to email section..

    2. i really wish there was some way to combine the various Previous Recipients databases so i am not constantly looking at two different databases. after all, if i respond to the same recipient on both devices i am at the very least constantly deleting duplicated listings in these databases and if i DELETE the email from the Previous Recipients database then they will pop up again only to have to be ignored or added and then deleted...

    THANKS

That's why Mail is a poor Contact Manager, it was never intended to be one.

You have some work ahead of you, sorting your disorganized contacts once they are in Contacts, when you get it the way you want, back it up!
